I have been trying to get my 15 year old son to play golf for the last 3 years. He has a lot of natural athleticism, but he always preferred X-games type stuff. Finally got him to try golf this year. He isn't a big kid, 5'5, 140#, but he is pretty strong. He has played exactly 4 rounds with me, including 3 in the group I play in, and he is hooked! Yesterday we played Springwood in York, Pa. and #4 is a downhill 289 yard par 4, with a small green, creek in front and woods to each side and back. I tried to drive it, but faded a bit too much, and landed safe, just short of the creek. He gets up with his new Cobra amp ( courtesy of me! ) and hits a bee bee 15 ' pin high left! He missed the eagle putt, but made the birdie! I think i was more excited than he was lol! Sadly, he struggled for a lot of the round, but that was his first birdie, and no one can take that away!

Awesome stuff Bigball! That is a heck of a drive from your son. Glad to see he is enjoying the game, wish I would have started playing at 15. |

I've got an 11-year-old who has a nice natural swing. I'm convinced he could be a good golfer, but he's always had the issue of wanting to immediately be the best at everything. Since he hits bad shots when he plays golf, he's not the best and therefore, has decided "he doesn't like it." Very frustrating for me.
Congrats on your son. If he can find another kid around his age that enjoys playing you'll be set. Additionally, get him thinking about the high-school golf team if they have one. That's a great way to enjoy playing with friends. Whether he does well in the actual tournaments is not really important. He'll likely have a blast just practicing with his teammates. |

My dad tried to get me into golf for the better part of my childhood, and I never really cared for it. I would go play with him, simply because I liked being with him, but I never liked the game himself. Like your son I was more into "x games" type sports, and was always looking for a big adrenaline rush. Now that I've settled down a bit and have to go to work at the end of the weekend, I find I enjoy a sport that is a lot less likely to bring me physical pain. I wish I would have picked it up years ago when my dad tried to get me into it. The good news is I am addicted now and luckily still get to play with my dad.
