Default Anyone ever been hit by a golf ball?
This past weekend, I was making the turn and happened to notice 3 or 4 carts all sitting together with 5-6 people around one cart. We drove by and saw the beer cart girl holding a towel to her head with ice in it and crying heavily. I also noticed a ton of blood was running down her arms and she had blood on her legs and shirt. My guess was she was hit in the forehead with a rogue golf ball.

So, has anyone else ever been hit with a golf ball? How did it happen/how bad were you hurt?

I got hit by a drive on the foot last year. My shoe took most of the brunt but it still hurt like hell. The worst part was the kid who hit the ball never yelled fore. Needless to say I gave him a lesson on the importance of yelling fore. Had he yelled and the ball still hit me I wouldn't have been upset at all.

I read a stat somewhere that if you play golf once a week for ten years you will get hit at least twice.....not sure if its true or not. If it is, im gonna get hit again.

OUCH! I have never been hit that I can remember myself, but I did hit a friend when I was 13. I hit him dead center of his thigh and literally knocked his legs out from under him. He couldn't stand for a few minutes. He went home and two days later he had a circular bruise with 4 different rings 4 different colors. I felt terrible. He limped probably for a week I'd say, and the bruise lasted 2 weeks at least.

I was hit on the left temple by a tee shot on a short par four. the guys behind didn't wait for us to get to the green. I was standing a watching one of my partners hit. out or the corner of my eye I saw something moving so I turned to look. within that split second I heard the ball flying and saw it in time to duck. it hit the bill of my cap where it meets the part that overs your head. had I not been wearing a cap....it probably would have been in my eye socket.

the worst part....the guy who hit...was on my team.

When I was in the Marine Corps and playing on the base course I got hit on the side of my face about halfway between my ear and eye. Luckily, I wore glasses at the time (pre-Lasik) and the ball actually hit the rim of the glasses and really reduced the amount of impact. Got an apology and had a headache but finished the round.

I never have, but a couple years ago I felt the breeze and heard the sound of the golf ball flying past my face. No fore or nothing. They guys who hit it never even came over to see where it was. They wouldn't have found it easily though, as it had been forcefully stepped into the ground.

does this count?

At the outing I hit one off a tree that came flying back and me and nailed me in the knee

I never got the pleasure/pain of being hit by a ball, but I have seen the damage it does to a woodchuck. A guy in front of me (10 yrs ago) hit a burner and hit the woodchuck about 150yds away, dead on impact

Thank goodness I have never been hit but my dad almost was killed by a jerk who they were letting play thru and he walked up and hit without letting anyone know and from about 50 yards out lined drived a driver right into his left temple. He was lucky it didn't kill him.

People just need to be more patient and yell fore.

Funny story was one of our playing partners who is a pretty good player and very long but plays a big push hook hit a tee ball a few weeks ago that hit a tree solid about 40 yards off the tee and it came back to him and he caught it dead in his hands....he looks at us and proceeds to re tee while my buddy and I started rolling around and busting a gut from laughing so hard. It was hilarious.

I've never been hit, nor have I seen someone get hit.

Does it count when your 1 and 3 yr old think its funny to throw them at you when laying on the floor?

I haven't but I've had several close calls. Let's just say they didn't get to hit that ball again.

I was driving up the #10 cart path to the pro shop prior to a round. I didn't see players teeing off on #10. I had the front window down on my cart and had someones drive come through the window and nail me just below the last rib on my right side. in other words, a liver shot. It felt as if i was punched. When I went to the bathroom to view the damage I had a perfect golfball bruise that lasted for about 3 weeks before totally going away. Talk about some weird bruise colors!!

I was stationed in Germany and playing a place called Rolling Hllls. I was a serious newbie at the time so, I teed it up and promptly hit one dead straight into the woods at about a 45* angle to the right.
Being all and whatnot, I trudge off into the woods to get my ball back. I follow the same path my ball did, so really wasn't much in line with the next guy teeing off.
But guess what...about 2/3 of the way to the woods, I hear the thwack of the driver, and about three voices yelling Oh s$#t watch.....and that's when the ball hit me dead between the shoulder blades from about 40yds.
It hurt...a lot. But having been hit and adding that to the anger from the first shot, I kinda blew it off, kept on going and retrieved my tee shot. I didn't play very well after that for a week or so.

I was actually hit just this past weekend. My dad and I were in the cart maybe 30 yards in front of my aunt, off to the side in the tree line. We watched her hit and then started crossing into the fairway to find my dads ball. She decided to drop another one and hit almost immedietely. I took that one right in the ribs! Was mostly our fault as we should have been watching her but boy did that smart for a little while.

I was playing with my Dad once, and I was sitting in the driver seat of the cart and he was about 10 yards away hitting his second shot. He hit the ball off the very tip of the toe of the club and it came directly into the side of my knee. No real injury, but it felt like being shot (I'd imagine).

About a month ago me and a buddy were riding up the fairway to hit our second shots. Guy 2 holes behind us, but on the adjacent fairway, sh@^&s a fairway wood and we see it screaming right at us. My buddy turns hard right and the ball bounces off the front of the cart, bounces off the roof over his head and lands in the little basket where you keep your headcovers and misc. right between us and our clubs.
We threw it out onto the ground and laughed about it when he drove his cart up to us to apologize. Wasn't even time for him to yell fore so we wern't ticked off or anything.

I've been hit once by a ball that bounced off a tree. The guy was hitting and I was standing about 30 yards off to his side while he hit. He pushed it dead right into a tree and then it came back and nailed me in my thigh. It hurt for about 10 or 15 minutes and the pain slowly started going away. I'm sure the tree took a lot of the speed away from the ball so it didn't hurt as much as getting hit by one that didn't hit anything.

That counts!

At the 2010 outing someone was hitting a few balls into the trashcan full of practice balls, and hit someone in the shin... don't remember who the hitter was, but I think Todd was on the receiving end...

I was squatting down to read a putt and no more after I stood up I get hit on-the-fly just above my belly button. Hurt like you know what. The guys I was playing with said lets see the mark. It had a nice welt all instantly and changed every bit of color over the next few days. If I hadn't just stood up, I would have gotten it in the face. It was a direct hit and no glancing blow.

Kind of reminds me of when Jonny Knoxville stood there and took a hit from a bean bag shot from a shotgun.
