Lately my rounds have consisted of the ol' "tale of two 9's". I seem to get stuck on a "bogey streak" and have a hard time getting back on track. Conversely, when I get on a par streak it's amazing how easily they come. Examples of last couple of rounds; 39\48, 50\40. What do you do to get back on track during a round?

When I want to get off the bogey streak, I just make a birdie. Haha oh how I wish golf was that simple.
One thing that I do when I'm on a streak, whether it's good or bad, is to just try and make the most out of it. When I'm on a birdie streak, I just try to ride that good momentum and keep the positive thoughts going. When I hit that bogey streak, I just try to make sure that the worst I will score is a bogey and I try my best to keep the negative thoughts to a minimum. |

If I get into a bad bogey streak, I revert back to fundamentals. Hit a fairway, no matter what club it is. Get on the green. 2 putt. Par.
If I get on a birdie streak, I inevitably try and protect it and fail. I was -5 through 4 holes at my home club once. Got thinking, tried to ward off against danger, and thats when the blowup happens. I finished that round +3 on 9 holes..... I just wanted to die afterwards. |

I just play it safe straight from the tee-during the US open I noticed how many times the pros actually use a 3 iron or a 3 wood over a driver and most amateurs I play with always play a driver and most of them can't hit it right so basically I'll use my 4 hybrid off the tee because I know i'm consistent and I play safe and try for par
here's a something I always forget-Par is a good score |

My thought for every hole I play is "Par". All you need is 18 of em and you are sitting pretty. Every shot I make is an attempt to make par and very rarely do I take a risk that might jeopardize that. If I end up with a birdie or bogie so be it, if I get a double or above, I've done something wrong. Between that and moving past the hole as soon as its done, thats how I try to avoid streaks.

When the Bogey Train shows up, I'm more than happy to get aboard.
Unfortunately, I keep missing it and get stuck on the OOB Express or the Lost Ball Special instead. I mean, it's bad enough to lose balls on 6 consecutive holes, but on 6 consecutive shots, like this past Sunday? I was ready to throw myself in front of a train... |

Typically, the only way I get off the bogey train is to double bogey a hole
![]() They're getting better though. Last month I was getting lucky and getting 2-3 par's a round and bogeys the rest of the way. It was pure luck and a single lucky swing followed by 8 or so brutal hack jobs. Now I'm getting 1 par, maybe 2 per round but no penalties, no lost balls, no weird stuff but my tempo has slowed down and is costing me distance. When I have this new swing ingrained in my muscle memory and I can step it back up and maybe use a driver once in a while on par 5's, I can hope for 6 pars a round can't I? |
