When I saw Louis Oosthuizen's deuce on 2, I thought I'd never seen a finer shot. That is, until hole number 74. With it all on the line, Bubba stuck a wedge from the woods.
My argument is this. Louis' shot on 2 was great, don't get me wrong. I mean, there aren't many who can stripe a 4 iron 253 yards with perfect accuracy. But it was a perfect lie, downhill, and downwind and the natural slope of the green was such that he didn't have to carry it over the bunker on the right. He just needed it to get to the front of the green and get it rolling. The slope of the green did the rest. But Bubba's shot. was on the second playoff hole, hitting from pine needles, he could not see the green. It was a complete skill shot. I guess the only thing lucky about it was that he was left handed. A righty trying to make that angle would have been really umpossible. |

While the probability of replicating the double eagle is low, the shot out of the trees and hooked onto the green in a playoff was way bigger.
Also Oosthuizen admitted that his double eagle kind of messed up his day. Once he hit that shot he thought it was all over and he had a hard time getting focused the next 5 holes he said. |

Well, Oosty's was a well struck shot that he was trying to get on the green. Going in the hole after rolling across 90 feet of green is total serendipity. Bubba, on the other hand, was manufacturing a shot that resulted in him winning a Major tournament.
I think a better comparison to Bubba's shot was Phil Mickelson's 64 degree wedge shot on 15 on Saturday. There is not another player on the planet who can hit that shot. THAT was impressive! |

Wait....whats the question?
They both were shots LOADED with luck. Sure factors came to play. More impressive? Um Bubba's shot that won it all for him. There was tremendous pressure....no view of the green and he just put on his BALLS and nailed it. Yeah, there was luck there but luck can favor the bold. |

Anyone have a link? |

Well there is a certain amount of luck to any holed out shot. It isn't like he didn't hit the part of the green that would put him up right next to the hole. He hit it where he wanted to and had scoped out to give him a great shot at eagle. http://www.masters.com/en_US/videos/highlights.html |

Here you go. Skip forward to 5:40 to see this shot. Although he was a in a complete bitch of a position, in the end it was just Phil being Phil. He's a complete witch with a wedge, and I expected no less from Phil on this. With that said, Bubba's shot on hole 74 pisses on this one. |

There absolutely was luck with Oost's double eagle. When he hit that shot he in no way envisioned it finding the bottom of the cup. I don't think there was any luck with Bubba's. He pulled off the shot he wanted.
As for Oost saying the double eagle messed up his round, WTF? He thought it was over? He had only a slight lead and a whole round to play. That's a weird thing to think and say. |

He pulled off the shot he wanted. I've played in tournys before, and when I make a great shot, it usually continues to carry on to the next hole(s). It's bad shots that are harder to overcome. |
