I would have never thought when I read this thread way back then that my golf course would be under water virtually the entire season and maybe not even playable next year.

Courses are so royally f'd around NJ-DE-PA. The fall season won't even really exist.

Tough to grow grass with a quarter-inch layer of silt over it.

Fall season.... we hardly had a 2011 season to begin with and will be lucky to have a 2012 at this rate.

They found the bench from the 5th tee three miles down the creek in Fairmount Park.

One of the fairways prone to flooding being covered with topsoil to be crowned. It will still flood, but the water and silt will flow off the fairway into drains and swales instead of sitting on the fairway and killing the grass.

Well, we are biting the bullet and completely shutting down for the season. We will open the 9 high holes this week, but the low holes are being shut down for a flood mitigation project that will hoepfull allow us to open sooner when we do flood, which is inevitable. Raise and crown fairways, and create drains and swales that will get the water and silt off the course quicker as the water goes down.
Thank goodness that courses in the area are being very kind to us and allowing reciprical play while we are shut down. We have always allowed reciprocal play over the years as some the courses in the area shut down for projects and it is coming back in a positive way. So I'll be on tour for the rest of September and October. Not all that bad.

Another fairway, graded and crowned with topsoil, awaiting sod. I wish they were seeding it instead, but it's too late in the seson.

Ths is our golf course now. Four new crowned fairways to get the water off quicker, and widening the creek to allow free flow.
Same fairway with the pond fixed and grading the topsoil.

Wow. Huge undertaking. But I'm glad your course is able to survive and do the work. I was talking to a starter a few weeks back and he said he anticipated a bunch of courses in the area shutting down because of flood conditions and/or lack of revenue this year because of bad weather. I sure hope he's wrong.

We are getting hit with a pretty significant assessment. But we have a strong, committed membership who love the place and we are biting the bullet. I hope it works. If it doesn't, I expect an exodus in the next five years.

That's my course. There was a new report this weekend on the course but I couldn't find it online. It is going to cost millions to fix, we've lost quite a few trees and obviously a lot of sod. They are saying best case scenario now is midway through next golfing season.

This is what we call the "dry creek" because it's only purpose is to allow water from the nearby neighborhood (which has no stormdrains) to get to the creek that goes through our golf course. It is small and narrow and the bridges didn't allow a lot of water to get by, so it would back up and end up on the golf course.

This is after widening the banks of the "dry creek", and one of the new bridges we are putting in to allow for water flow into the creek from the adjacent neighborhood. The amount of water you see flowing there would have flooded out of the old creek.

Cutting and topdressing in JANUARY!!
This area used to be heavily bunkered and was a maintenance nightmare when the course flooded. Now it will be tight bent lies around a very small push-up green.
