Got to go out an play a few holes with my son late yesterday. Made a move on the second tee clearing my hips and the hit the ball 250 in the air, which is about 20-30 yards farther than my norm. I was able to repeat it for the rest of the shots and I was hitting all my clubs straighter and longer. I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.
I know this is what I am supposed to do, but I could never repeat it shot after shot. I end up doing it right a few times during a round, but mostly I end up a little over the top and pull a soft fade, which is the shot I mainly rely on. Now I need to get to a range and build it into my swing while I got the feeling. |

Probably the most bizarre round I have ever played in my life. |

So I decide to play late yesterday, even though it's around 97 degrees when I get to the club. Too hot to waste the energy warming up at the range, so I go out cold. 6 over par on the first 4 holes, and then it kicks in. 4 over on the last 14 holes for an 82.
I got something going right now. I know if I warmed up I would have gone really low. It's all in keeping the arms and quick twitch muscles out of it and just using my body in one piece, and making sure I clear my hips to allow room for the club to come from the inside. Handicap has gone from 14 to 11 (index 9.3) in the last four rounds. Playing again tomorrow and I will be sure to get there early to warm up. Goal this season is now getting to single digits and staying there longer than a week. I was a 9 for a week two years ago. |
