Default PGA Championship to have best field ever?
The PGA of America announced this morning that 100 of the world's top 101 players have committed to playing in the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National next week.

If they all maintain their world ranking and participate, it would be the second time in seven years that Hazeltine set a major championship record for most top-100. The 2002 PGA Championship included 98 of the top 100 players. The Official World Golf Rankings have existed since 1986.

At this point, next week's field includes 99 of the top 100. The only player in the top 100 not in the field is Sweden's Robert Karlsson, the 18th-ranked player who withdrew this week because of ongoing eye problems.

The field includes a PGA Championship-record 71 international players from 21 countries. There are 13 former PGA Champions in the field, including defending champion Padraig Harrington. There also are 28 major winners with a combined 52 major titles.
