I scraped it around today for an 82. Had a triple on the second hole with an unplayable lie. Also missed about three putts from within 3 feet, one was a flat-out yip. No red net number for me.
I admit I was intimidated by my playing partners' length off the tee. One was a former college player who carded a 68. The other was 300 lb. former college football player who, on the last hole, striped one 320 to a 330 yard par 4. The last guy surprised me. About my age, I coached his daughter this year in softball. We'd talked about league, but had never met up. He was smoking his big dog also. These guys were often 30-50 yards past me off the tee, although the latter two guys weren't always straight. College kid was. I felt feeble out there at times. Even though, the final gross scores were 68, 79, 82, 82. |

Drive for show, putt for dough. I was telling a buddy who was struggling Wednesday night, just quit trying to keep up with the long hitters. I'd rather have a hundred yard shot than a 50 yard shot anyhow.
He's retired and plays with the big boys off of the blues everyday. He plays ok with us, then when he's with the big boys he swings too hard and falls apart. I hit more good shots Wednesday than I've hit in a long time, everything felt great. I felt like I was barely swinging the club, no effort at all and my drives were crunched. |
