The fairways are still there. You really just need to be in them now.
Well, that's always the goal. But you can't let trees define your course. One of the things I've noticed at our course is the views now that a lot of the trees are gone, especially ones that weren't in play. For instance, we had a giant pine tree that was well behind the first green. It wasn't in play but it kind of framed the back of the hole. With it gone, the green now has the floating effect that the original designer had in mind and it actually makes the shot a little more difficult. The green has become a harder target, but it's not artificial.
