I'm in the same boat Smalls...I've had a few really good rounds, and seem to follow them with some not so good ones. Trying to hard to shoot low seems to get me in trouble. My best rounds seem to just happen. Also like you, with the good rounds, the handicap is falling. I know that if I don't try and overswing, or over think, the rounds will be ok, but always seem to find a way to throw that out the window and do something not so smart.
![]() Yesterday was a prime example....shot an 86 with 4 doubles and a quad. All the bad holes where mental mistakes, and the round could have been awesome with just a bit of smarts. But it seems like emotions and lack of brains have to take over once in a while, and the meltdown ensues... ![]() |

Lots of good stories here. Thanks for the responses and keep them coming!
Today I had the round I have been looking for. I shot 84 (higher than the 83 a couple days ago) but tee to green, probably the best I have ever played. Even better than last Tuesday. But where I had 27 putts, 10 one putts and over 120 feet of putts made, today I had 35 putts with only one, 1 putt. Five shots worse with eight more putts. My putting wasn't bad, I had good speed and aim, but couldn't get them to drop today. |

I know exactly what you mean by getting frustrated about not going that low all the time. I remember the first time I broke 80, and I could probably count on 2 hands the times I have done it since then in the last year. I have shot 80 many times, and been within a few strokes, but it seems so hard to consistently break 80 to me. I remember when I first started breaking 90. It seemed like I was never going to do it consistently, but now it seems like once I broke 90 a couple times it didn't take long to do it consistenly, and I just can't seem to break that barrier with consistenly breaking 80. Best of luck to you on shooting more rounds in the 70's, maybe you are just saving more of those great rounds for Myrtle Beach.

well after my personal a few weeks ago i've been all over the place since. i played 5 days after and shot +2 then i played 2 hard courses that i had never played before and shot in the very low 80s then i got back to where i normally shoot and shot a few rounds in the mid 70s. Although after my great round i had to take a week off of golf due to weather and work schedule i really lost my groove unfortunately and i havn't gotten it back yet. its still close but i feel like i don't get going till the 4th or 5th hole. i really wanna try to start warming up more before my rounds and see if i can get back to where i was before the day i shot my career low i had played the previous 4 days so i was really in a groove with everything. got some vacation coming up and i think im gonna try to play every day again and see what i can muster up score wise.

I really haven't had that happen in the same way, but mostly that's because I'm used to being so inconsistent. What really grinds me sometimes is the round a day or two after a great practice session. I try to re-capture the swing/results I had and end up thinking more about that than just swinging and playing.
