I am an avid junior golfer and i play in all types of weather including the great heat of the south. Does anyone have a suggestion on methods of hydration that actually taste good. I have had nuun and most of it tasted horrible and I am not a huge Gatorade person. Any suggestions? |

Not to be a smarta$$ but I drink a ton of water when walking the course and nothing is healthier for you. Try adding some MIO to it... it' 0 cal/carb/etc... and tastes great... The sweet tea is the best. I really do like the FRS energy products... the drinks go great during a round, gives you a boost of energy... But I also drink a bunch of water. |

Not to be a smarta$$ but I drink a ton of water when walking the course and nothing is healthier for you. I also drink a lot of ice cold water. It is the most refreshing thing I can get. My problem is I go through it all well before the next water stop. Water is the top way to hydrate! Water is the best way to go. |

So the MIO is good Danilo? Been tempted to grab some but no one I know has tried it. i was skeptical... but because of it I completely cut out all sodas! I have a bottle in my bag that goes with me, and keep some at home and my girlfriends house. The sweet tea is the best flavor. Pomegranate berry is really good as well. The fruit punch is my 3rd choice in flavors, but it's really strong... so go easy on that one and the strawberry watermelon. The mango peach mixes great with the pomegranate berry. |

I vote with these guys. Water, water and more water. When it's humid and nasty out, I will drink 60 to 80 ounces before I leave the house so I am well hydrated before I start. We have two coolers on each nine and I empty a 20 ounce water between each cooler and the clubhouse. Then refill at the clubhouse making the turn. The last time I went out it was really miserable and we just played 9 holes. But the above usually works well for me as long as we aren't waiting on taking our shots. Even staying hydrated though, 110* Heat Indexes are miserable to play in for me. |

Agree with lots of water. I don't know much about Mio but I've been using Nuun hydration tablets lately. They contain electrolytes and very few calories unlike sports drinks like Gatorade. Comes in different flavors. http://www.nuun.com/

As mentioned, lots of water and/or sports drinks are the key. My big piece of advice is to do it in small amounts frequently. Keep a bottle with you to fill at each cooler or in the clubhouse and drink it a little at a time. It is alright to chug a bottle here and there, but you don't want to get in the habit of chugging a 20oz bottle every few holes and that is all you drink. Drink a little each hole to keep replenishing.
If you start feeling cold or get a massive headache, stop and take a break, that is dangerous territory. |

Man, 20oz of water between 9? I would be dead on the floor with the scavengers eating me! I take 2 bottle in my cooler pocket, and another bottle on the cart... those are gone in a few holes! I sweat like there's no tomorrow, but when it's 90+ and the sun is out at full blast... I need all the water I can get! Lucky for us in FL that most courses have plenty of water every couple holes. |

Water is absolutely the best for your body as has been said and my wife (a nutrionist/dietician) recommends for everyone one bottle of gatorade/powerade there MUST be 2 bottles of water in order to truly be/stay hydrated. As Smalls refers being hydrated BEFORE the round is critical, as once you're out there, getting hydrated would be almost impossible if you're not already hydrated.
I'm a powerade fan myself and gatorade isn't bad either, but I'm a big fan of the Arizona Arnold Palmers. They are not the best to hydrate with, but I mix one of these with 3 bottles of water to compensate. Vitamin Water is a big friend of mine and tastes good and helps hydrate you as well. |

Like others have said, water or a sports drink that you like that doesn't have a lot of high fructose corn syrup in it. One thing that has helped me is to start drinking water HOURS before I get out in the heat.
I have actually had to go to the hospital for heat exhaustion a few times in the past-one time recently over July 4th weekend. My doctor suggests Pedialyte as opposed to sports drinks so I always have that available. |
