At the courses I generally play around here my average is 83.6. My lowest is a 72 and my last 3 are 74, 81, 72....I have zero consistency and I learned the hard way a couple times this month that my HC does not travel well, 90, 89, and 93. As long as I'm under 90 I'm happy. I just started playing this past November, but I tend lean toward the obsessive side of things and put in A LOT of time over the winter while o one else felt like playing in 20 degree weather.

Going scoring average is probably the worst way to talk about your ability on a golf forum, since we all play different courses with varying lengths and difficulties. An 80 on my course could be an 88 on another course, or even 100 on a course in Texas.

Your scores on a single course can only be measured against people who are playing the same course, where handicaps help even out across the board. (I said, "help".)

Tadashi shot a 77 at Sawgrass, and I would say that is much better than a 77 at my course. Hell, it would be better than a 70 at my course!
Not Cookie's course, it's easy

I shoot low 80's on my course as it is fairly easy. I am around 90-95 at most other courses that I do not play often or have never played.

I vote 75-85. My personal best is a 79 (shot 3 times), and my last few rounds have been in the low to mid 80s. I'd have to really tighten up my ball striking to be able to get below 75.

I voted 75-85 too, my average scores hover around 74 to 79 depending on the yardage and my scoring avg is 77.4. My last two 18 hole rounds have been 74 from 6100 yds and 75 from 6200 yds. Pryor to that I shot a 77 from 6500 yds, anything longer than 6600 yds, I'm dead, I don't hit it that long. This is a cool thread OG.

(i'm playing short to practice for a playing tese next month)

I've only been focusing on lowering my scores the past year or so, prior to that golf was more of a social event. I think if a player focuses on practicing the short game and putting while trying to play a greater variety of courses, you can score lower more consistently.

I think my potential is different than my average scores. i average in the 70s but i havn't broken or shot par yet my handicap is a 4.5 right now. lowest it has ever been. but i think potentially i could get it down to a 2 or scratch thats my long term goal. honestly i dunno if its possible but thats my goal with golftec right now is to get it down to a 2 and if that happens id love to try to become scratch even if its for a short time. im pretty obsessed with lowering my own scores and handicap. thats what i love about golf really i challenge myself and make goals and then reach them and make new goals. Gives me something to strive for.

I don't know about this. This is a great poll. I'd like to think that at some point in my life I could shoot par or better. My putting has improved leaps and bounds over the last 3 years. As long as I continue on my current trajectory and I can continue to play as much as I do now, that is my hope anyways. Nice question OG!!

While I don't have an official HDCP, I plan on getting one very soon as I just joined a course and plan on inputting all my recent rounds there. I usually (past couple months) shoot 92 or below now. My low round is a 86. I would say that my potential is a 70's player as I've been golfing just a month over a year now. Going into this year I wanted to break 85 and I've been beating on the door lately. Hopefully playing at regular course instead of playing at 6 different courses will help me get there.

I think my handicap makes me look better than I am because I play 99% of my rounds at the same course and know where not to hit the ball and how to score my home course. I usually shoot in the 80's but when I play a course for the first time I end up in the 90's.
This is a very good point. I have had this happen, but the second time I play a course I am usually in the low 80's, high 70's. I guess I'd like to think my handicap is pretty close to accurate.
