I was wrong, I guess it's a two stroke penalty.

Who cares if you had 20? That guy sounds like a Grade A D-Bag who probably hates life and puppies. If you arent playing for money, turning the score in for handicap, or had some sort of wager then I see no big deal. The only time I've counted clubs in a bag in recent memory was when I caddied for my buddy in an GC AM Tour event. Other than that who cares?

I wouldn't say anything even if it was in a money league and I'd just got my butt handed to me. Of course I have been known to carry around two complete bags on my cart...
It might not make a difference in the results this week, but if it were a money league it might be enough to keep you out of the money. If you are playing for money or prizes, you at least try to play by the rules.

But in the case above, I could maybe see penalizing strokes at the most (see Ian Woosnam with two drivers by mistake, he was penalized 4 strokes, I think - 2 strokes per hole two holes max, could be wrong in a major, I think). Not a DQ for that. (Although if we're being technical, if it was signed without extra strokes added, then that would be a DQ!). But I don't know that anyone signs scorecards in leagues.

Again though, in a bragging rights league, who cares?

I definitely wouldn't say anything, other than a possible lighthearted joke. If it isn't a tourney or a money league, who the heck cares? You didn't use the club, so I find what he said to be so petty...a stupid fuss over absolutely nothing.

Question though: Did you beat him?

Wow. Golf leagues are serious business.

I frankly wouldn't have cared so long as you didn't use the 15th club. Leaving the club behind for the round is not reasonable considering that it could be "lost" while you are out playing. I guess they could have forced you to take the putter back to your truck, but even that is kind of a douchey move if the parking is out of the way.

It sounds like someone is a little too much into the golf league. It is, after all, serious business.
He is a rules stickler guy, and it gets annoying. Ball falls of the tee, he asks if your club caused it or not.

I wasnt playing against him, he wasnt even in my group. It's not a head to head league. It's a 2 man team league, based off of a "quota". (Bogey = 1pt, Par= 2pts, Birdie= 4pts, etc). You have to beat your quota each week to get points, and at the end of the year the team with the most positive points wins.

In that situation, I wouldn't have cared. If it was for a bigger tournament (State Amateur or some kind of qualifier for US Amateur or something like that) I would have probably said something. That being said, I wouldn't have counted in the first place and would only say something if you made it obvious you were using all 15 clubs.

And you can say it doesn't matter, because it's not in play yet! It's not in play until you take a stroke at the ball. A waggle that hits the ball is not a stroke.

Ah gotcha. So he's a rules stickler that is trying to get ahead because of the rules. Just confirms how ridiculous he is.

Yeah that is pathetic since it's just a bragging rights league.. He needs to get a life and accept you would beat him with 14 clubs straight up!

Unless someone takes a legitimate swing at the teed ball, misses it, but the motion still causes the ball to fall off the tee. That intentional swing at the ball counts as one stroke. In that case, I'm not sure if the person gets to re-tee the ball or not.
