Was talking to some guys in our league the other afternoon, and apparently someone mentioned to my buddy (Commissioner of the league) that my round should be disqualified as I had more than 14 clubs in my bag. The issue was I got to the course early and had 2 putters in the bag as I hit the short-game area and was working on my putting. I didnt feel like taking my extra putter over to the truck and putting it in and running out of time on the shotgun start, so I informed the Commissioner of the league that it was there and that I wasnt going to use it, as well as telling the guys I was playing with. I asked if they wanted me to leave it with the cart guys, and was told it wasnt a big deal and there was no problem since it wasnt going to be gamed.
Apparently the guy who made an issue out of it created quite a fuss out of me having 15 clubs (2 putters), and I have no clue when he would have counted them. This is not a money league, just a bragging rights league for fun. I should have left the putter behind, but the group I was playing with gave me the ok to keep it in the bag and not risk the cart guys "losing" it. I told them to give me a DQ for the round if need be. Question is; Do you say anything? |

Besides, I'm sure there are other instances of illegality going on like illegal clubs being used when reporting scores for handicapping purposes. |

If you're playing for money or prizes, I would. If it's a fun league with no prizes of any kind other than "I won, blah blah" then no.
It's why I never ever bet, because I've seen the guys who play for money, fluffing their lies, not putting their ball on the correct spot on the green, etc. But if it's for fun, who cares what anyone does? |

That's pretty weak of someone to pitch a complaint in a bragging rights type league, especially when you took the time to say something. I have an extra quite often because I'm always experimenting during my practice round and used to say something, but no one at my club cares. You must be a better player, lol. They fear your game.

If it's not for money, I don't think it's a big deal. I think it shows your class to call a DQ on yourself. The other guy is making a fuss over nothing (bragging rights). Personally, I think it's a little lame that he did that. If you are not playing for money, who cares? Ask JB, or SeeMoreGuy how many clubs I had in my bag at the outing when we did the shotgun at the new course. Just a hint, it was over 20! |

Wow. Golf leagues are serious business.
I frankly wouldn't have cared so long as you didn't use the 15th club. Leaving the club behind for the round is not reasonable considering that it could be "lost" while you are out playing. I guess they could have forced you to take the putter back to your truck, but even that is kind of a douchey move if the parking is out of the way. It sounds like someone is a little too much into the golf league. It is, after all, serious business. |

I wouldn't say anything either.
One thing I have seen many people do when they accidentally show up with extra clubs is to take them out of the bag and put them in the empty cart bag holder and proclaim to those in the group that you are not using those clubs. Also, at that point it technically isn't in your bag and shouldn't be a problem anyways. Someone was clearly just being petty for the sake of it. |

Agree, that was pretty lame of him to say something about that, particularly after you asked your playing partners.
This goes to the heart of my hatred for the "gotcha" rule minders and the "gotcha" rules that are hurting golf (wind moving a ball, little negligible rules you see and hear about all the time that have no tangible impact on the outcome of the shot/game). |
