Long hitters make me press if I don't say focused. I want to hit it farther.

Better players, as a generality, usually have great tempo, and play at a good pace. I know when I play with someone "really good" it does rub off onto my game. I subconsciously swing smoother and don't press as much.

When playing with people who struggle with golf, the main drawback to my game is the length of time it takes for them to play each shot, and conversely the round. I have to really concentrate to keep in focus. However I try to never let it affect my game, nor the cordial way we treat each other on the course.

I find that I play better golf when I play with guys that are about 5-10 strokes better then me. When I play with guys that are shooting any better then that I feel rushed because I feel I am taking too long.

I think having a preshot routine helps especially if you pick your target and focus. It seems to help settle your mind and get you ready to hit. It gives pace and measure to your game and quiets your mind as well.
Keeping score for your self also seems to help. Not hearing what someone else scored and hearing all the other stuff that goes with that seems to let me move on to the next hole and think about what I am going to do instead of talking about scores and three putts and where someones drive went and all that.

So no I don't think my game changes based on who I am playing with.

Tempo... never even thought about that. This is probably true.

Absolutely, I always play my best when playing with other avid golfers. When I play with friends, who are all casual golfers, my game tends to slide a bit.

I think it just a matter of pace of play, and subconsciously elevating my game to match another strong playing partner out of a competitive nature.

I looked at the title of the thread and thought of something else.

When I play against my buddy who is a 5 HC I play worse than I usually play because I try to hit it as far as he does.

I just realized that the title for this thread could sound like something else... sorry if I offended anyone.
I'll admit it peaked my interest! lol

no need to merge the threads, but i posted one not too long ago along the same lines. check it out:
http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...mpany-You-Keep

i tend to play ok no matter who i play with, good or bad. but if i had to pick, i think i play better when playing with someone that is as good as me or better.
