Thanks everyone for expressing interest. The details should be finalized within a few days, at which point I will have a link to the signup site.

@ Bahester - if you are only in Portland for one summer you have to hit as many courses as you can, so I expect to see you there BTW, I played a course near where you are going to be for the first time called Merriwether. Nothing special - flat, not particularly long and pretty straightforward, although my putting stroke would have you believe it was Augusta; but a nice easy way to shake off the rust and start the season. If you want a cheap(er) round that is going to be convenient for you - and you have some time (slow play) - consider this one. As mentioned before, the nice courses near you will be The Reserve and Pumpkin Ridge.

Okay Portland THPers here's some official news for you (basically as advertised except for the bolded parts, which I didn't know about):

The date is June 23rd at 8AM at Chehalem Glenn and is a shotgun start. There will be a limit of 72 people and the deadline for signing up is June 8th at midnight. Once registered, you are signed up and ready to golf. Your entry fee of $85 includes: green fees, cart, range balls plus a catered lunch buffet by Rogue Gourmet Catering Company of Newberg at the conclusion of the event during the awards ceremony.

I'll PM the sign up link to those of you who have expressed interest. Others who may be interested should PM me for that link too. Thanks in advance to all who participate and I look forward to meeting/playing with you guys.

Sounds fun! Chahalem is a course with some serious teeth. Hence why it has a slope of 145 from the back tees and 140 from the blue tees. I'll check the schedule and hopefully make it.
so how good is shooting an 87 the first time there for a 9.0 handicap?

if i were to signup, would i be gauranteed a spot playing with other THP'ers? and is there an available playing fee that doesn't include balls or a lunch that might be less expensive?
and on the link you sent me, you have to pay by credit card. i'm only 16- no credit/debit card. how would i pay if i decided to play?

Unfortunately there's probably not an option for paying a fee w/out the balls and lunch.

If you definitely want to play I'll get in touch with the people running it and make sure it can happen w/out a card. PM me. If money is particularly tight I'll chip in $5 toward your fee...heck, way back in the day I was 16 once too. Maybe others might want to join in and help you out a little. Do you have a way to get to Newberg?

Great question about playing together. There is an option for signing up as a team (saves $5 an entry) but assuming people don't want to do that I'd say send me your real names when you sign up and I'll submit them all together to the organizers and make sure THPrs can play together.

okay cool. yeah I know I can at least get there...
(EDIT)
the most i can really spend on one round of golf is $60 as i hardly have over $100 at the moment, and i don't have a job/spending a lot on golf as it is... so if you can possibly find a different fee or something that can save me some money, than i'll be there for sure.. but if not, well i guess i gotta wait for another portland THP get-together on a cheaper course.. maybe RedTail? i've shot all except for 1 of my under-80 rounds there and it's fairly cheap.

Default Portland, OR get together
My kids' school is holding a golf outing / fund raiser at Chehalem Glenn in Newberg. I've never played that course but understand that it is nice. Official details are yet to be announced but it looks like $85 for 18 holes with a cart and lunch on Saturday, June 23rd. My understanding is there will not be any auction, raffle or other attempts to get into your pockets.

This is a private Catholic school so don't expect strippers working the food cart or starters box

I thought I'd toss this out there as a potential way for Portland area THP'rs to get together for a round of golf. PM me if you are interested and I'll forward the sign up link to you.

Wish it was in the middle of August! I'm heading out to Newberg because my daughter will be attending George Fox University beginning this fall.
Maybe I can check out Chehalem Glenn while I'm there.

More info for you...

It is a scramble format. The award ceremony will be for longest drive, closest to the pin and lowest team score.

They are about ½ way there to filling the 72 spots, with an announcement to go in the parish bulletin this Sunday...meaning there probably will be a bit of a surge on spots next week. I’m not saying it will sell out next week or anything but if you think you might want to play it is probably better to sign up sooner rather than later (I’m going to sign up today).

As a reminder, this is the weekend following the THP event OregonJack is putting together at Heron Lakes. That gives you a chance to work on your team games together... just saying

Anyone who is interested that hasn't already received the signup link should PM me and I'll get it to you. Hope to see a bunch of you guys out there!

Bump.

Just curious if anyone that expressed interest initially decide for / against playing. If you want to play I want to help get you assigned to a foursome with other THPrs.

Sorry for not respomnding sooner to this. I decided to pass on this for a few reasons; 1. I really don't get along with this course and find it VERY hard. Too hard for my skills at this point without becoming very frustrated. 2. that is a little more than I am looking to spend on golf, especially at a course I don't love. 3. The family is trying to leave our options open for weekends this summer as we got a new RV and want to use it as much as possible.

I'd love to get together with you another time, let's keep in touch and work it out. Thanks for the invite.

No worries at all, completely understand and thanks for letting me know. We'll figure out a way eventually to get the Portlanders together

What kind of RV did you get? We're big campers (Coleman Sante Fe tent trailer) with the kids - love the coast and central Oregon.
