Default Question to confirm
Just been up the range mostly good but my misses went straight then faded right. I'm thinking I'm not releasing the club head but I'm making sure I'd ask my pro but he's sunning it on holiday.

If I remember correctly without looking it up, that sort of ball path would indicate a proper swing path but an open club face.

If it is really starting straight and not a little left or right of the target then it's more likely a square club face and an outside in club path.

"The golf ball starts on the direction of the swing path and curves back to where the clubface was aimed at impact."

This is exactly why you always and I can't emphasize always enough, you will ALWAYS have better results if your club face is aimed at the target - regardless of your swing path. Same with any club, putter to driver.

Just to be clear that quote was referring to the incorrect thoughts on ball path:

Put another way, many instructors and famous golfers have stated that the swing path is the primary, over-riding determinant in the golf ball's initial starting direction. This information is wrong. I agree about club face being square though

one quick question, is your ball flight lower than it should be for the respective club? If so I would say that you aren't releasing early enough. I had this problem for the last few months and after working with the club pro, we removed the problem by properly releasing the club. At impact I had the shaft leaning towards the target and the face was wide open and the loft was so much lower than intended, also the ball flight was a low fade, straight and then right. If your swing path is correct then it might just be a release issue. If your ball flight is a normal fade then it's just an open face.

Try strengthening your grip and swing as normal and see if you get a draw or straighter ball flight and if that doesn't work, exaggerate your release and then start from there.

That's your answer then, too much head movement, don't worry about the ball until the follow through and your head shouldn't move too much then! Glad you figured it out.

I was falling into that straight to fade scenario for a while till an instructor had me strengthen my grip just a little.
Boom....gone.

Strengthen meaning from weak to neutral grip

or

Strengthen meaning grip it tighter?

I changed to a neutral grip (seeing the top two knuckles on my left hand) and my shots are much more consistent.
