Have fun first of all. Don't forget it's a game. Go out there and give it everything you've got, and at the end of the day know you tried your hardest.

Have fun! It's just a game! I'm sure everyone on here has a competitive side, but in the end it should be fun. Good luck buddy! Also follow all the professional golf cliches. " stay in the moment" "one shot at a time" "play your game" and so on and so on....LOL!

Tamper with the software on your opponent's rangefinder to give him bogus readings. Fill the grooves of his clubs with glue. poke a hole in his driver head. Replace his ball with one of those exploding balls. Accidentally cough in his backswing. If he uses a push cart loosen the wheels so it falls apart and he has to carry. Make up rules and tell him he's breaking them. And don't forget to wish him luck before every single shot. Combine all that and you'll never lose

One High School Golfer to another, mine was last fall, but heres the really competitive side of me, if you go up in a match, play your own game, and play conservative if your down, dont make easy mistakes that bury you. If youre up and you have a fair amount of lead on him, play smart. If youre tied or up a little and youre opponent changes styles from conservative to risk taker, dont fall into it. I've had it done to me and done it myself to other players and it can work. If youre opponent seems the conservative type take a calculated risk to throw off his/her game. And if you're tied play like youre down. And if its an important match and you get up, go for the throat. Dont let up off the gas but always HAVE FUN!

I like your humor^ But do show gamesmanship, if youre on your home course and its a par 5 with water up near the green, tell them its not as big as they think it is, they can carry it, then from 150 they take a light club and splash.

Do you have to try out or are you already on the team? Team golf is so much fun. As a middle school student my daughter worked pretty hard, but would sometimes get discouraged and to be honest, a little lonely playing golf. When she entered her freshman year and played on the varsity with teammates, she absolutely went HAM for the game.

Enjoy it. It's been almost 35 years since I played H.S. golf, and I remember it like yesterday. Actually, I remember it better than yesterday. At my age, it's the short term stuff that fades quickly.

never ever cheat, trust me I've watch local HS matches and seen foot wedges, drops for behind tree's, ect. If you get beat, you got beat by doing your best this way and if you win you can take pride in the fact that you truly won, not that you cheated your opponent.

Respect the game!

1. Enjoy yourself out there.
2. Play your own game. Don't get caught up in the hype with match-ups.
3. Be honest with your scores. We found out that one of our teammates on the team was faslifying scores.
4. Practice your short game. Any schmuck can hit it 250+, but you gotta sink those putts and knock those chips/pitches close to win.
5. Have a social life.

I agree with most of what has been said.

Be sure to not worry about how well or how bad the other guys in your group are playing. Stick to your game whether it is chipping & putting or hitting it 190 off the tee.

Don't try to jump on an iron on a par 3 just to hit the same club as everyone else.

Chat with the guys in your group. I still stay in touch with guys from HS golf well over 10 years ago.

Have fun and practice what needs work to lower your scores. After all, it's a game of low-score wins so most likely, become very familiar with the practice green!
