Default Club Problems
What club do you struggle with the most in your bag? Do you believe it is due to the club? Have you tried others and still struggle? I was a little suprised when I got a PR release from a major company that says out of 500 coaches surveyed, the number one trouble club was the LW. I figured it would be driver.

My troubles usually are with the wedges, luckily when I played in FL with you the dreaded "S" didn't come out, but it pops it's head up from time to time and gives me fits. I get this awful "hosel buster" thing going with the wedges and it is hard for me to get rid of.

Not much forgiveness in a wedge, especially the LW. If I don't hit mine square on, lord only knows where the ball is going.

I have more problems with the fairway metals, though. I'm much more an iron/hybrid hitter, in terms of my swing. If I'm not very careful with the fairway metals, I hit them really fat. Or thin. Goldilocks golf. Which is why I love my hybrids.

For some reason I am most confident with my wedges, and especially my sand game. I struggle with the driver the most. There are rounds where I can't miss the fairway and rounds where I can't miss the tree's. I'm confident hitting a number of shots with my wedges but can't seem to control my driver. I also have some issues with my 3 wood off the deck, the ball seems to always go left on me.

Any iron longer than my 5. I just gave up and leave them at home. They don't play nicely with others.

Until this year, I would have said my 3-wood off the turf. I lucked into choking up like one finger width and now I'm flushing it.

So now I would say it is my SW. I don't even carry a LW anymore, as a full swing used to range from 40 yards to 8 feet ... and I always worried I was going to pop the ball straight up and hit myself in the forehead with it

I have similar problems with distance control and my SW (not out of the sand but off the turf).

My driver.

I can hit my irons pretty consistently, my hybrids are good to me, and I enjoy hitting my wedges.

I'd probably score better if I wasn't always having to recover out of the flippin' woods from a bad drive. (I only average ~4 fairways per round with it)

3 iron and 3 wood. my driving is pretty consistent. my short irons and wedges are my strength. the hardest thing for me though is putting, i have never been one of those people who you expect to make a lot of their putts

AK,
Correct me if I am wrong, but I recently read an article in one of the magazines that Juniors practice their putting on average less than 5% of the time. Do you think that is true in your case?

i will be honest. i do practice more than the 5% of the time that it says, but i dont practice as much as i should. i think the reason that my putting isn't very solid is because i have not been putting everyday for the past month or so, which is something i did over the summer. i am thinking that i need to bring my putter inside and just putt while im watching tv so i can groove a confident stroke

Fairway woods off the deck, the only reason I even take them is for long par 3's that I can pull a 3 or 5 wood and tee up.

My irons for sure. My ball striking is actually the best part of my game, I hit the sweet spot probably 90-95% of the time, and rarely hit it severely fat or thin (just manageably fat or thin) and I have good distance control. The worst part of my irons though is I don't control them well side to side. I can hit high shots, punches, knock-downs, and I have the ability to use different irons at different lengths because of this. I just cannot control a fade or a cut to save my life. Most of my missed greens are missed left or right, rarely long or short.

You certainly aren't alone. Short game is the hardest part for many people. And so much bringing back old threads tonight.

Definitely the driver for me...close second has to be the LW. My driver gives me fits on the course, yet I can hit my target more than half of the time on the range. Go figure.

Driver, it is finally coming around lately, which makes the slices all that more frustrating... and deadly since I now aim at the fairway, instead of out of bounds left.

Wow this thread came back from the dead...LOL

For me right now its the driver, I hit the LW pretty well. I have buddies though that couldn't hit the LW if their life depended on it...they blade one and shank one and then chunk one.
