I'm going to work on 2 things. Both of these I think will improve my game and get me closer to the level that I feel I.can play at constantly.

1. Putting, putting, putting. Looking to get down to around 29-31 putts per round. Looking at my averages this would get me down in to the low to mid 70's on a consistent basis.

2. Mental. Going to read both my dr. bob rotella books twice, plus try and pick a couple more. Really believe in what he says and the way he goes about what he teachs.

My weakest part have always been putting. I had the time this summer, so I went to work early on this season with my PGA professional. Took several sessions with him and lots of work on my part, but I had my best year in twenty years putting. Dropped my index several strokes this year which got me a lot closer to where I once was handicap wise. It also takes great iron and wedge play to score well, but I use to miss a ton of putts inside 5/6 feet, but now I'm making most of those. Figure out where you are the weakest and work hard on that area. I need a second set of eyes, and it has to be someone I trust, so I go to our pro with every issue.

Short game. All short game. My logic is this: I can be around the green in a GIR number on any hole, so I want to learn to get up and down as much as possible. I'll hit some GIR, but for those I don't, I still want par. Luke Donald FTW.

I have been working in hitting each of my clubs different distances with different length swing of the same speed. I know how far they travel with a normal swing so I am working on 3/4 and 1/2 swings with each club so I can see what the production level is. Because of this I have spent a great deal of time with the shorter clubs. Working on 100yd 9 irons - SW. The 8 irons will join the rest at the next session.

I am also working my upper body working against the lower to generate more power.

My season is rapidly coming to a close, so what I list here will be my focus for the rest of this month, and then for next year as well. The 2 main areas for me are driving and short game. I need to increase my driving accuracy to have more shots from the fairway on approach shots, and also need to stop having penalty shots off of the tee. I've gained some distance with my driver this year, but I feel like I've sacrificed a little accuracy. I also need to develop a go-to shot off of the tee for tight fairways. My stock shot with the driver is a little draw, but that isn't all that consistent, especially when I try to swing too hard with the driver and my tempo gets all messed up.

With the short game, my scrambling stats have been pretty poor this year. That comes from wedge play around the greens, but also my putting from 10 feet and in needs to improve. I'd also like to get more consistent with my wedges from 100 yards and in on approach shots, and get more proficient with 1/2 and 3/4 shots with the wedges.

I think you will be surprised with the workability of the Pings om. Might be a little more difficult to flight the ball but it can be done

Thanks for that input, I think that's what JB was telling me also

Right now I am working on 2 areas. Putting from inside 10 feet and my full swing. I'm going to do a swing change so that will take up a lot of my time over the winter. I have a 6 foot truthboard(thank you Mdbuschr!!) which will let me practice 6 footers inside.
Good Luck on that truthboard this winter !!
I have to make good strides in getting to the green in fewer strokes, then I'll change my focus to putting improvement ... besides, I like 'hitting' more than 'putting' anyways LOL

Working on three main things:

1. Driver: I'm just not consistent off the tee at all. Big time slices. Need to dial the driver in and get consistent with it.

2. Short game: chips and approaches to the green are wofeful at best. Putting is ok most of the time, but can always work on that.

3. Course Management: I know I choose the wrong club, or layup or not layup, etc. Need to have more confidence in my game so I can manage the round better.

Everything, but in this particular order:

1. Driver: Being on the fairway will cut OB penalties, difficult 2nd shots, etc. Gaining too many strokes here.
2. Short Game: Get the ball within five or six feet and you've got a shot.
3. Putting: I'm actually getting better at putting, but would still like to get my rounds to sub 30 putts.
4. Irons: Once I fix my over the top move my irons will be that much more reliable.
5. Course Management: On the two courses I play regularly I've begun making good decisions about layups or aggressive plays. It really just comes down to being able to trust my distances. I don't own a GPS or laser so it's all eyeballs and markers for me.

Getting back into the game after being gone for a while I'm pretty much focussing on getting my overall game back. I took my current clubs that I'm replacing out to the range on the weekend and found that I am still able to drive the ball 250-300 I was tending to slice it a little and was miss-hitting with my irons quite a bit. To me it felt as though my swing was right out so I need to put in some serious range time and get my swing back. I have always tended to naturally draw the ball off a drive so to slice it is a bit of a shock to me.
The main thing I want to focus on though is my putting. I've always been a fairly bad putter and have relied heavily on my wedge skills to get the ball close enough to single putt. If I have to putt more than a few feet then I can almost be sure that I will be multiple putting. The thing that I fail the most at is simple aiming. I don't putt the ball where I am trying to aim it. I am hoping that with a new putter and their lines etc on them it will assist me somewhat as I'm using a 20 year old blade putter currently (really old school one... the kind you get given to you when you play minigolf). I'll be upgrading it in the coming weeks.
I'm sure my swing will come back with a bit of practice so between now and christmas I'm going to focus pretty heavily on my putting.

Always working on 3 things: putting, all aspects; wedge play, refining distance control on shots from 40 - 100 yds; full swing, trajectory and shot shape control with all clubs.
