My uncle lives on a course that closed a few years ago, pretty much the same thing, the bank foreclosed but hired a company to operate it until they could sell it...they can get a whole lot more for a in shape operating course than an overgrown closed up one.

Hopefully they will do that with yours.

Another course near me closed this weekend, apparently they were losing money, and the owners said enough. They said they are going to close for 5 years, and then look at the economy at that point and decide whether to reopen or not. They have 2 offers to purchase the course for 1.5 million, but turned them down. The owner said it will cost 500,000 to reopen the course once it becomes overgrown.

They said Grand Cypress, OCN, Championsgate, and other courses in south Orlando area ran them out of business with their summer rates.

Man that sucks, hopefully only short term until a new owner steps in.

I assume being a golf course home that you might have a Homeowners Association? If so, you can contact the President who should be aware as to the zoning and what can be done with the golf course land. I would think that it would remain a golf course but in what form (public or private) who knows.

Good luck
The problem with zoning is that it can always be petitioned to be re-zoned for residential housing. The positive sign though for the OP is that it would be quite expensive and time consuming to tear up the area to run the necessities for a housing community on what was a golf course. I don't know of many builders right now that would take on that task unless they got the land for next to nothing to make up for the fact they'd have to go nuts to make it useable.

The club here in my neighborhood closed for almost a year and then finally sold, the new owners are rebuilding greens and doing some other renovation and are supposed to open this month or next. I will play there just to try it out when they are done, I had a membership before but will not buy another. Not worth it for the 'lifestyle' - I can play golf 5 or 6 times a month almost anywhere for less than the cost of the basic monthly fee so it just isn't worth it to me.

Well, it closed on monday (Yesterday), and just announced an hour ago that a re-opening thurday is scheduled.

PHEW!!!! that was close. I was really discouraged as I have already prepaid my membership for next year vis a vis a deal they had a little while ago.

Would it be so bad if they opened up the course to be a semi-private just to get more golfers making tee times?

Very happy to hear that they are reopening! Not too much to worry about after all!
