So I didnt really see a thread for this but I was wondering who are some of the best/coolest people you ever had a chance to play with or meet on the golf course?
I was at our municipal course in Bellevue, WA and some guy asked if I had a University of Tennessee towel on my bag...I turned around and it happened to be Kippy Brown (current WR coach for the Seattle Seahawks). This was a big deal for me because I love Tennessee football and I always wanted to be a WR coach and all of a sudden standing 3 feet from me was the guy who was known for UT's great WRs in the 90s. I got to play a few holes with him and he gave me his card to come watch a Seahawk's practice (sadly timing of the lockout ruined that from happening) |

Only have played with one THPer and that has translated into numerous rounds together now. But one of the coolest rounds I've ever had was down in FL with a kid who was younger than me yet was playing on the hooters tour. Getting to see an up and coming pro hit shots next to me was something I will treasure and something I won't forget because it has only made me want a career in golf even more. It really was something special

I've never played with a THP'er either, and I haven't had the chance to play with anyone else of note. I did however, caddie for NBA ledgends Sam Jones (Celtics, 2nd most rings of all time behind teammate Russell) and John Starks (Knicks) at an outing. It was so cool!

Couple of cool ones over the years. Back in the 90's I played hooky from work one day and ended up playing with Curt Shilling outside of Philadelphia at a daily fee track. Real cool guy to play a round with at that time. About a year later I ended up playing with Rick Santorum in Northern Virginia when he was a Senator. We ended up hitting it off and to this day I take part in his "guys" golf trip annually and he plays with my core group. Politics aside, great guy and a pretty good stick.

I had a chance to play with Dave Dupuis a couple weeks ago at a small muni course near my house. He is a special effects make up artist that has worked on Nip Tuck on FX,and many movies such as Stargate and Blade. He was in the Charlotte area working on the Hunger Game trilogy starring Donald Sutherland and just happened to pick that small course to play a round.I drove him back to his hotel after the round and got to talk to him some about his job. Here is a link to his FB showing a sample of his work. And he is a pretty good golfer too!

Back in HS I went to my local course (public) and wanted to walk on. It was around 3pm and the starter (yes there were still starters back then) told me there was another single walking on the first tee if I hurries up I could play with him. I grabbed my bag heading for the first tee and noticed my playing partner was playing from the tips which made it easier since I was. As I got to the tee box he was digging in his bag for something and I said "hope you don't mind I'm joining you" as well as introducing myself. Much to my surprise he turned around and it was Joe Sakic! For those of you who dont follow hockey he was an all star for the Colorado Avs. It was one of the best rounds I've ever had. He was an amazing ball striker and great player.

So I didnt really see a thread for this but I was wondering who are some of the best/coolest people you ever had a chance to play with or meet on the golf course? A couple of weeks ago while volunteering at the LPGA Futures Tour event in Richmond, I had the pleasure of spending 5 hours riding with Phil Ritson. Got to hear about players he has coached over the years, some advice on course management, as well as things to look at in players swings. |

bout 6-7 years ago, my brother-in-law and myself went to play a round, while the rest of the family went to the casino. We were just a twosome and played 3 holes when we caught up to a single. We saw him tee off (par 3) and then he drove off and waved us up. After he drove away my BIL says..."I think that was Eddie Murray" I was like really you think? (for those who have no idea...he was the field goal kicker for the detroit lions for a long time and eventually won a super bowl with the cowboys)
We tee'd off and drove up to the green. He then introduced himself as Ed and asked us if we wanted to join. Once we were back in our cart we were like cool, somebody kinda famous...at least around here in detroit. LOL. Great guy and really good golfer too. After our round we headed into the 19th hole and he was sitting at a table, invited us to join we shot the breeze for a while and then the best part... He was wearing his superbowl ring. We asked if we could see it, he says sure. Takes it off and we got to hold it and slip it on for a min!!! Thing was HUGE and very heavy. Totally an awesome experience I wont forget. Once it was time to Eddie even picked up the tab. ![]() |

Earlier this year, I was playing a round of golf and was walking the course playing a couple of balls doing more practice than playing. I had a group of three older guys come up behind me and one of them asked if I wanted to join in with them. I agreed and hopped in the cart with one of them. When we pulled up to the tee box the two guys in the other cart got out and one of them was Terry Bradshaw. He plays at this course quite a bit since he played football at Louisiana Tech. When he comes back in town for Tech functions, he'll play the course. It was a blast playing with him. He's just as goofy on the course as he is on TV.

Any THP'er I've ever played with. Outstanding dudes and young ladies. Also played with an older guy named Bruce last week. I teed off on the 10th and he was playing his back 9. On the 11th tee I noticed he couldn't keep his driver very still while addressing the ball. On the 12th hole, he hits the ball to within 5 feet but promptly blows the putt 10 feet by. He apologizes and says he has Parkinsons and sometimes that happens. Rest of the round I really notice how shaky he was before hitting his ball. Funny thing is that he still hit the ball really straight and ended up shooting a 78. I promptly handed him my THP ball marker and said I hope you join up as you will love it here. He was also getting married in a few months.

Back in Dec. 2004 we had one of our sales meetings in Palm Springs and as part of a sales incentive three employees would get to play with a PGA pro we had just started to sponsor his bag. Well I was one of the lucky three and got to play a round at PGA West with Jerry Kelly. Really nice guy and very down to earth. He ended up hanging out with all of us after the round during our company dinner.
