Hey guys, I'm looking for a little bit of swing help. Here's the situation:
Right now I can't get off the tee box to save my life. Ever since I've played golf, or at least ever since I really started to take it seriously, I've played a draw. About a month ago this draw vanished with my driver and woods and turned into a fade. I've still got it with my irons though. I feel like I've tried everything to straighten it out with my driver, but to no avail. I know I'm hitting the ball dead square in the middle of the clubface(have the ball mark on the face after each hit to prove it), it just starts off on the right side of the fairway and fades further right. I know it's hard for you guys to give exact advice without seeing my swing, but just wondered what your thoughts might be. Are my hips just getting too far ahead of my hands, thus leaving the club lagging and open at impact? It's just especially troubling since I still have my normal ball flight with my irons. |

You are probably staying more centered over the ball with your irons going back and through. This is my biggest flaw with a driver, usually I hit it really well but when I want that extra little bit of distance on it I become a fader/slicer because I get too much hip and leg push through the swing, just from trying to hit it harder. One thing that helps me is to just aim a little left but close my stance a little, shot becomes sort of a pull fade that way and I can keep it on the fairway if my timing is off, either on the left side if I hit it right or it catches the right side if my hands are a little slow getting through the ball.

It is hard to say without seeing your swing, but there is a local guy who is a scratch golfer here that has a TON of wonderful videos out there.
I recommend checking out the free videos on his site as some of the things he talks about briefly may give you insight to the ideas. www.golflessonacademy.com They also do a free live show but I don't think they are doing it until next month. Watch the one about how far is too inside in the video section. This may briefly show you what I believe you may be doing and would cause you to swing through with your hands too inside pushing it right. |
