Default 2nd Golf Lesson
Well, I had my second lesson yesterday. First one was about 10 days ago. Since my first lesson, I have found my driver swing thanks to using a strong/strong grip. My iron grip has also changed to a strong/neutral grip. So the new grips, along with his tips for staying on plain have shown drastic improvement in consistancy. (That, and I should own stock at Spring Hill's practice range as much as I spent on range cards getting this sorted out)
I warmed up with my 7i and consistantly put 80% of my shots within 15 yrds of one another. Then I warmed up my driver. David, my PGA Pro/Instructor, snuck up behind me and had been watching for a few minutes unknown to me. When I finally turned and saw him he was like " wow, looks like someone has been working at it quite a bit". And THAT was gradifying. He had me hit my driver more than anything just because he was amazed my grip didnt cause me to go left. If anything, it always goes straight or a fade. Distance was around 230-250 fairly consistantly. We also worked on long irons which tend to slice more times than not. Ended up being by down swing was too much out to in. I kept the right elbow in a little more and that solved that issue. So things are progressing nicely. I will have my next lesson in another 10-14 days so I'm sure something will come up that I need to work on. I am REALLY glad I decided to take these lessons. They have helped me tremendously with my swing plain and set-up.
Now if I can just break 90 in the next few months. Hmmmmmmm.

Thanks, Tex. I certainly hope so. It has been nice to cut down on the number of lost balls which equals to money in the pocket. That is well worth the price of lessons right there!

Great job! Don't forget that lessons should be a lifetime long thing. I look at my more like "tuneups" and not really lessons. I had my first in the mid 70's and my last a week ago.

Keep working hard. The good play will come.

I have never had a lesson before. Im sure they would benefit me, but I guess my greatest fear is then my head would get all in my way of my swing thinking about all the things they have told me I am doing wrong... Im sure lessons would help me break 80 consistently....maybe I should bite the bullet and take some ??

I did that free 30 min lesson for golftec that was posted on here, and I was kind of skeptical of it at first because I didn't think 30 mins would be long enough. It was more than enough. He quickly pointed out my flaws and had me fixed in about 5 swings. I strongly suggest anyone to take a lesson that is thinking about one. It has turned my whole game around. I am too thinking about investing in one more lesson. I too am hoping to break a number, not 90, but more like 110. That one lesson from last week quickly took several strokes off my round this morning.

They definitely help. And good instructors don't give you information overload. They give you just enough to work on without having to go through a lot of mental progressions. Every time I go its like another piece of the puzzle is put together and then finally one day it all comes together. Then when your out on the course and you hit a poor shot, you know exactly what you did wrong without having to see yourself swing in a mirror. Really good stuff.

Hoosier,
If David keeps giving me the "3 lessons for $100" deal, I will be seeing him for a very long time.

Yeah, thats what I hear. He even spends 45 minutes to an hour with me. Now, he doesnt use launch monitors or cameras or slow video play back. Everything is done on the range at Heron Lakes. He looks at your swing from different angles and tells you what he sees both good and bad. Whats great about him is he works with what works for you. He does try to re-invent your swing completely. He will ask you to try different things but he wants you comfortable. Its really been a great experience.

It went great today. The main thing that I learned is that I was taking the club too far back (parallel to the ground) and that I was breaking my elbow at the top of the swing to do so. To fix that my instructor was working with me to rotate my shoulders more and using my arms less, and also mentioned bending my wrists rather than my elbows on the back swing. It was great to get a few pointers from an expert. It was my first lesson since I was really young.
