Default Quick Rule Question
I searched for questions similar to mine, but couldn't find any anywhere so if this is a repost, I apologize. Anywho, onto the question:

I own the Titleist 910D/F/H set, which as you know is adjustable. I was playing with a gentleman last week and wasn't hitting very straight off the tee so I decided to make a slight adjustment on the box then hit a dead straight 290+ yard drive. He said to me after the shot: "Nice shot, but I believe it's against the rules for you to adjust that club mid-round." I was wondering if any of you knew the truth to this? If so, I have been breaking the rules since I bought the clubs.

Rules violation. You cannot alter the club in any way once the round has started. I'm about 99% sure of this.

Yes. It is against the rules of golf to make an adjustment during the round. I am not sure on the penalty, but there definately is one.

Oh great! Thanks guys for the input. Looks like I need to find out the penalties for this and add them to my scores for the season.

You are correct sir....ding ding ding
Once the club is set you can not adjust during the course of play. But at your local friendly round of golf not sure it's a big deal. Play on player!

Edit: what everyone else said while I was tapping

Was looking this up, and see that it's already been answered.. anywho, here's the skinny:

4-2. Playing Characteristics Changed and Foreign Material
a. Playing Characteristics Changed

During a stipulated round, the playing characteristics of a club must not be purposely changed by adjustment or by any other means. USGA rule book rule 4

I thought this was a penalty, wasn't sure what the ramifications were. Thanks for the clarification. I think I remember this coming up specifically in response to the 910D series of clubs?

I see it's been answered, but I'll echo what everyone else is. It's against the rules. It's a great tool for working out the kinks on the range, but once you tee it up, the clubs have to stay as they started until the end of the round.

Just read 4-2 and it states that the penalty is disqualification... Looks like my rounds are all void now... Gotta get to playing more so I can get the handicap down..

Were all of those rounds in competition play? If you're out with your friends and adjusting your game, I dont think it's anything to lose sleep over. If you are playing in a tournament or something like that and are out there wrenching and adjusting, then yes, void the round.

I'm very liberal with handicap rounds. We always let you play 2 off the 1st tee if you didn't get to warm up. And your drops from cart paths and fences etc are rather loose.
But even I wouldn't submit a handicap round where I was adjusting the driver during the round which is kinda what he seemed to be saying. If you want to play with a draw setup do it before the round. Adjusting your club during the round is pandoras box. Dogleg right, open it up. Dogleg left, close it up. Take some loft off to get more roll or add some to carry a hazard.

Yeah, messing around sure. But don't submit the score.

Is it, cause I feel like you'd get DQ'd on the Tour. Hell it might even be worth the two strokes if it's a longer course.
