Just wanted to share my experience playing at this club.
First off, you can't beat skipping work to play anywhere, regardless of how good/bad the course is. Mayacama is a private club in Santa Rosa CA. I was able to get on through a tournament that the NCGA held here yesterday. The club house was beautiful. Not as big as I thought it was going to be though. The bar only held about 20 people or so. It had kind of a mission/southwestern feel to it. Staff was very attentive and helpful. The course was sweet. Tee boxes were perfecly flat, fairways were almost divot-free. The rough was thick but not too long. Everything was green. No patches of brown or off green that you would see on muni courses. Perfect weather conditions. The only thing bad was that they sanded the greens right before we played. Not sure why though. In the end, it probably saved me. Even with the sand, the greens rolled true and still very fast. I couldnt imagine how fast they would have been without the sand. The format was a two man team, each playing their own ball, scoring the better of the two scores for the hole. Handicaps apply. We actually ended up winning the tournament with an 8 under. My hc is a 17 and my partner's was a 6. I was just happy that I contributed -5 of our overall -8. I actually won a closest to the pin contest as well (34"/180 yard). If you ever get a chance to play here, I would highly recommend it regardless of the price. We ended up paying $250 which included caddie fees, breakfast, range, and lunch. I believe you can get on for about $385 (non member accompanied) and $180 (member accompanied). |
