Just inside of the front foot on majority of putts. If I am putting from off the green around the fringe, I move the ball back in my stance so I make solid ball contact.

I play the ball between my left heel and center of my stance on all putts. I adjust the width of my stance depending on the length of the putt and make my backswing to my back foot.

I play a bit forward of center too. I have a friend who is a really good golfer who tells me to practice putting before I play. If I am missing my putts a little left, move the ball slightly back and if I'm missing right, move it slightly forward until I find the ideal ball position for that day. I think this actually works pretty good.
I like that and I'm gonna try that out. A little forward of center for me.

of course depending on the lie angle of your putter, some positions may work better than others. If you have say a lower lofted putter (i.e Yes!) you can get away with moving it a little more forward than you could with a higher lofted putter (i.e Odyssey)

I'm curious where everyone places the golf ball when putting. Is it in the middle of the stance, back or forward? Do you change the position based on the type of putt?
I play right to left putts further up in my stance and left to right putts back as well stand closer to the ball. What do you do?

Center on all putts...The only thing that changes for me is the grip. I'm a righty but putt with a lefty grip when I'm within about 5-7ft. I feel I get a tad more control but less power. When I'm further away I'll putt with a right handed grip so I can get distance. Not sure if there is a big difference in the score from doing so but I mentally think there is.

I try to have my nose right over the ball dead center of my stance. I'll have a playing partner (on the practice green) drop a ball from my nose to see if it'll land on the ball in the center of my stance to see if im setup like i want.

I put the ball just front of center to make sure that I hit the ball on a slight upswing and get it rolling rather than to have it have a little backspin like a ball struck in the middle or back of the stance will have.

I play the ball off my front instep. I play a forward press with it as well.

I've been playing with this all winter.
What I've come to is:
Ball forward, putter about an inch or two back so that my swing bottoms out behind teh ball and nicks the ball up the upswing, forcing the ball to roll.
I've found that it also depends on the type of putter - Blade or Mallet for this.
