So I got our clubs newsletter today via email, and they are doing the member-guest a little different this year. They are spreading it out over 3 days, 5 9 hole matches in a match play style event. This is how it will be run:
The big change for 2011 will be the Member Guest tournament. The board of directors, as well as the tournament and rules committee, with the guidance of Paul have decided on a team match play event. The event will consist of five 9-hole matches played over three days with set flights based on handicap. Each team plays within their flight and the winner of each flight will move on to the Sunday shoot out round. This format has gained popularity with clubs throughout the country and offers a tournament that is fun for the whole weekend. We will have a full description of the weekend and what it has to offer posted in the clubhouse for all to read with copies available to take with you. I'm kinda confused about how this would work. I figured someone here would know. Also, what if I were to play with someone that were maybe a 30 HCP. How would scoring go w/ handicap? Thanks for any help, BulldogsGolf ![]() |

This is a tournament format I've really come to enjoy over the past few years - we have two events like this at my club (both a member-member and a member-guest).
If it is similar to my experience, half handicaps would be applied for nine hole matches and would work like normal (in your example, a 30 cap would be a 15 for 9 holes and would, as usual, stroke off the low handicap in the group). As another addition, my club breaks each nine hole match into four matches - the first three holes, second three holes, third three holes and overall nine. In my experience it is an extremely fun, extremely accessable tournament format. Sign up and enjoy! |

My club has run this weekend format for the past couple of years. We run it as a member-member tournament, it really is a lot of fun. Everything is based on horse racing/derby format: The match flights are named Secretariat, Man o War, Seattle Slew, etc. We play 2 matches on Friday afternoon, 2 on Saturday morning and the final match after lunch on Saturday. The flight winners, and a couple of wildcards if needed, are then off to a horse race to determine the overall winner. One of our rules is that partners are limited to a 10 differential. This is done to make sure the flight matches are played against others with similar ability and skill. Each 9 hole match is scored with 1 point to the match winner and then 1 point for each hole won. Thus, each match has a total of 10 points available and 1/2 points are awarded for ties. When the horse race is set, the teams are then "re-handicapped" so the winner from the "high" flight can compete against the better players. A wind up dinner is held on Saturday night, recognizing all of the flight winners, overall champion, hole prizes (deuce pot, kp's) etc.

This is a great format. You and your guest will play to half your hdcp each nine hole match. You'll be matched against like golfers each nine. The winner keep moving on the loser my play in another bracket, I'm not sure about this but it would those that lose the first match to keep playing. It sounds like Sunday you could
Face other in different flights. So They can determine an over all champ. Have fun with it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
