Default Divots
I'm currently watching Golf Channel and I am watching divots between the pros and commercials like the Tour Striker. Pros are taking big divots, bigger the size for the more upright swings. Others are taking small to no divot.

I for one take a pretty big divot whether i'm on the range or the course. How big a divot do you all take? How is your swing in comparison (steep, flat)?

I take a decent sized divot. Normal would be maybe 6 to 8 inches. Just a normal swing down and thru the ball. Really wet here right now, so I was slinging some pretty good chunks today instead of a nice one piece pelt.

I am somewhere in the middle. My swing isn't real steep or flat and I take about a four to five inch divot each time I hit it good.

I usually don't take much of a divot at all unless I'm playing on Bentgrass.

Well, now, I don't take much of one, but a little bit. My swing has gotten flatter over the past couple of years and when that happened my divots got smaller to the point of nearly nonexistent. 10 years ago my swing was so steep that not only did I take a nice long chunk of turf, but it was veyr deep as well. My friends used to make fun of how much turf I took and that I should buy stock in a turf company.

I try and take a dollar sized divot. Right now it's tough because the ground is so soggy - I'm curious to see what my divots look like on the course tomorrow.

I tend to pick the ball clean except with wedges where I will shave off the top of the grass. I used to envy the dollar size divots of other golfers until I read Ben Hogan never took a divot either. I think my shallower swing helps me with fairway bunkers, long irons, fairway woods and tight lies but makes playing out of greenside sand and rough more of a challenge.

Shallow and about the size of a dollar bill. Sometimes I just brush the ground, if I'm holding a long iron.

Longer the iron, smaller the divot for me. With the 3 iron, I barely take a divot if at all, but with my wedge it is really digging into the ground. After the ball of course!

With my wedges I take huge divots, nice dollar bills that you can pick up in one peice later. Longer irons I take a decent divot but nothing too big. Just small little chunks here and there.

i was always taught to hit down on the ball which eventually led to me to taking a divot , so my swing plane is pretty steep with the higher irons, so yes i can lay down some sod but i always replace my divots

out here in the summer, the ground can get so hard you can feel the club "bounce" off the ground. Resulting in a smaller than average divot. Odd feeling at first, especially with the wedges, but you get used to it. Rest of the year its the same as every where else.

Puttin4Bird could wear my divots as a hair piece. Hehehe. Sorry, Jake, you're the only guy I'm sure is bald on the site.

My divot is about 3" long. I used to take more of a divot, but Ive been working for the past year on not hitting as many shots fat. My swing is fairly flat, Ive been told.

I'm a sweeper, so seldom take a divot. Except when I chunk it
