Default Stupid Golf Commercials
Am I getting crotchety in my old age or are these some of the worst? I can handle Rocco and the NBA tattoo guy but that screaming moron in the Slazenger commercial makes me want to buy a gun so that I might put him out of his misery.

You are right, they are pretty bad. The scary tatoo guy is what gets me to change the channel. Is he supposed to make me want to buy something? This is my biggest critic of the commercial, they completely forgot who their audience is: adults and parents. Scary tatoo guy isn't going to inspire Ms Soccer Mom to go and shop there. Bad marketing strategy in my opinion.

I really dont mind the Rocco commercial. I like the overall message of the commercial, saying that Dicks is a one stop shop for all the major golf brands & the biggest variety in an unbiased way. I think the target audience for the golf commercials is to draw people away from buying their golf stuff from the mass merchandise shops (walmart, target, etc) and shows a better variety than what would be seen in most course pro shops. The use of Chris Anderson (scary tattoo guy) was a bit weird, but younger viewers know who he is and was probably very cheap for them to sign. Does it appeal well to the dedicated high end golfer? No, but Dick's focuses more on the casual golfer who buys lower priced items (maxfli, slaz, walter hagen, etc).

Since the ads are golf based, I dont think it deters any soccer moms from buying their kids' gear there. As long as Dicks keeps a wide variety at good prices, parents will keep going there to get their kids' gear in 1 stop.

I don't particularly mind either of the ads, the screaming guy is kind of funny, but I'd have to kill him if he was in my foursome.

Off subject, but I am amazed by what Dick's has become. I grew up in Binghamton, where Dick's was started. The store I remember shopping in as a kid was maybe 3000 square feet. I've been in some stores where that is two departments!

I have to turn the channel when these commercials come on. I think the tattoo guy is Chris 'Bird Man' Kaman but I'm not the biggest NBA guy so I'm not totally sure

I guess it depends on whether you're a basketball fan or not. Chris The Birdman Anderson, is not only a good player but came back from substance abuse which got him banned from the NBA to being a very vocal anti-drug spokesperson.
It just shows that Dick's isn't just about Golf I guess.

I hate the Dicks TV ads but they do have a nice store in Indy at the Castleton Square Mall. The place is huge, two stories and is not your typical Dicks store. I never buy any thing golf related from Dicks, but I have bought some clothes there once in a great while if I'm in Indy.

Hey, I live in Vestal! Moved here from Owego. Small world....

On topic, I don't really see what Chris Anderson has to do with golf, but I would take him over the Slazenger guy any day. I did like the Dick's TM Burner commercials too.

There are a few folks on here that hail from the area.

Why? What difference if the equipment comes from Dick's or anywhere else?

How about the new Slazenger commercial? With the guy running around screaming the whole time? That commercial makes me want to break the TV. One of the worst commercials of all time.

I don't mind that Chris Anderson is in the commercial but it makes no sense to me. And everytime I hear that guy yell , "let the big dog eat" I laugh.. I can see how some wouldn't like with the commercials but I think they are ok

I usually like the Dick's commercials. I liked the one with Andre Johnson in it. I thought the Revis Island commercials were ok. But I really don't get the point to putting the Birdman in the commercial with Rocco.

I don't think you can blame Dick's for the Slazenger commercials though. Dick's may pay to say get them from Dick's but ultimately I think that's a Slazenger script.

I dont think the awful Slazenger commercial has anything to do with Dicks I just hate it the most. Im watching the replay of the Bob Hope and all the Slazenger commercials are either dumb or annoying. They need to hire a new ad agency.
