Ball at rest moved:
18-2. By Player, Partner, Caddie or Equipment
a. General

When a player's ball is in play, if:

(i) the player, his partner or either of their caddies lifts or moves it, touches it purposely (except with a club in the act of addressing it) or causes it to move except as permitted by a Rule, or

(ii)equipment of the player or his partner causes the ball to move,
the player incurs a penalty of one stroke.
If the ball is moved, it must be replaced, unless the movement of the ball occurs after the player has begun the stroke or the backward movement of the club for the stroke and the stroke is made.

i played with a buddy of mine that wouldnt take more than 2 putts... the only time it pissed me off was when he'd bat my ball to me and said he'd give me that one on a 10ft birdie putt... then by the end of the round he "beat" me

I once played with an older man who never even tried to hide that he put every ball into a good lie, or dropped a second ball to make putts, etc.

When I talked to him after the round, asking how he scored and he said "I don't keep score, I either played good, or I didn't play good. Today, I didn't play good" and proceeded to say something along the lines of "I have played golf too long to care about any of that stuff. I just want to go out and have a good time. Why should I play from a crappy lie when I don't care what my score is? I just like being outside"

I don't count what he did as cheating- and I hope I can have the same attitude when I am his age!

was out with some buddies and one consistantly found the woods off of the tee.The ball would go smoking in about 20' off the ground and he found every one at the edge of the woods.I challenged him on it and his defense was he'd paid $45 for green fees so he wasn't going to count a ball as lost and take a stroke.I guess that's ok but we were playing skins so if he'd of won one I'd of had about the same kind of logic when I wouldn't pay up to him.

I have seen it all. Today I played with that guy who always says he got a bogie even though he hit two shots out of play. I counted his strokes on one of the Par 5s, I counted 11 and he said he got a 7. I didn't call him on it simply because I couldn't care less and I will never see him again; but had we been playing for $$$ or bragging rights I would have called him on it.

I often play with older gentlemen that improve their lie on nearly every shot. They do so without shame and without hiding it. They don't keep an official handicap; they just do it to enjoy the game. I don't mind playing with these fellas; they are always having fun and they are humble. And because they are playing from perfect lies, it moves the round along quickly.

I have seen it all, but the one I hate most....that is probably done the most....is improving ones lie.
I see person after person after person reach up and pull that ball on a little tuft of grass to get better 3W contact....

That is just a false sense of thinking you're good.
I would love to see those people play it as it lies for an entire 18 holes....
Me thinks there score would go up 4-5 strokes....
