To me, golf is just a game. For it to be more than a game for myself it would have to be my job/career. All games should have a constant challenge or I would lose interest. If I didn't duff a shot or bend it in the opposite direction intended, I wouldn't have anything to work on.

I can see where others take golf as more than just a game though. They probably have a similar outlook as Bob Hope: "Golf is my profession. Show business is just to pay the green fees."

Golf is just a game. That doesn't mean I don't take it seriously. I have dropped F bombs on the course. I get frustrated when I really hack things up. I spend hours reading about it online and in books.

Anything people play is just a game unless they are making a living at it, whether it be golf, poker, football, etc. Some people just get waaaaaay too serious about the games they play, regardless of what the game may be. You know there are people that pout when they lose at Monopoly......

I've never cared, spent, talked about, or practiced so much for it to be just a 'game'
My exact thoughts!

Would a rational person spend this much money on "A Game"? Hell no!
Or as much on clothes as well

I may not play well, but I dress well on the course, it makes up for it!! WHOOOO My new tag line

I don't know what I think about it.I strive to get better at it but if it's not happening I don't despair. It's a way for me to get out with friends and waste an afternoon, evening or morning. To me it's just relaxation and a time to put away other worries..

I play golf for the camraderie in part, but I really play for the competition. I like to play tournaments and I like to play better golf. I work at it and I demand results from myself. If you want to play scrabble, I am not going to spend hours practicing before we face off. I cannot say the same about golf.

Definately just a game in my opinion. I love playing golf and I love seeing people do well at it. To me its just a fun thing being outside on a nice day doing what I love. I am very competitive and I try hard to be a decent golfer. But in the end, I just enjoy the day as a whole

To me its just a game. I practice hard and am disappointed if i do worse than i know i should but after that last putt on 18 i'm just happy to have spent my day doing something i love. I have enough of work by the end of the week so if this game ever changes from a game to work, thats when i'll be looking for a new game to play.

PS I'm in my mid 20's and me and my father took up golf 2 years ago and the game has brought us closer then ever.
