I have had problems with my shoulder for years but I always seem to be able to play golf and do normal day to day things without much problem...however, it has gotten progressively worse and this year it started causing me trouble sleeping etc... Well I went to the doctor last week and I have been diagnose with a "labrum tear". The surgery is out-patient and is orthoscopic, however, the recovery is TERRIBLE...I will be in a sling for 3-4 months and the doctor said I will probably not be able to swing a golf club until April...

Man that really sucks. You know my left shoulder and right elbow constantly hurt me but I refuse to go get them checked out. My g/f said is just b/c I'm a stuborn man but I think it is the thought of being laid up for a few months not playing golf. It is a very scary thought. Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Get better soon. We wish you all the best. I see you updated your bag again (twice in 2 months) and now are going with the R9 irons that many of us are loving. ![]() |

Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Since you're in Florida and the weather is conducive to golf year-round, I can understand your frustration about not playing golf for a few months!
I injured my rotator cuff in the gym back in April (tore the supraspinatus tendon by being dumb). After about a month the initial inflammation went down and I was able to play a little golf. I finally had the surgery to re-attach the tendon in September and right now I'm about 80% after lots of good physical therapy. I'm able to swing my Momentus - at a slow speed - a few times. It'll be a couple more months before I'd be able to swing a club at full speed. It's OK though, because I don't play golf here after October typically due to the weather. I'm surprised that you have to wear a sling for so long. My surgery was conventional - not orthoscopic - and I was in a sling for only a month. |

I'm surprised that you have to wear a sling for so long. My surgery was conventional - not orthoscopic - and I was in a sling for only a month. First 4-6 weeks - no movement to let it adhere to the bone Next 4-6 weeks - physical theraphy moves it for me Next 4-6 weeks - I start to move it on my own The more I think about it the more I realize that this is really going to SUCK!!! ![]() |

The reason is that the way the labrum heals is that it has to adhere to the bone so the recovery is as follows: |

I'm REALLY sorry for your wife. Is this your dominant shoulder? If so, she's really going to have to do everything for you. |

Hopefully not EVERYTHING. A friend's wife broke both arms in a fall. He had to do everything for her. And by everything , I mean EVERYTHING you use your arms and hands for. Yes, that too. And that, and even that! Now that's true love. ![]() Good thing I got the sidewalk cleared. Poor Liz falls and ... I guess I'd be in the same boat, lol. |

First of all I want to say WOW! I am overwhelmed by everyone's concern for my situation...I simply posted to let everyone know I would be out of action for a while and did not expect such nice responses...thank you very much and it truly proves what a nice bunch of people there are on the Hackers Paradise!!!
I'm so sorry--I wouldn't wish that sort of recovery on anyone. I'm REALLY sorry for your wife. Is this your dominant shoulder? If so, she's really going to have to do everything for you. ![]() |
