Default How can I convence my friend.
Ok guys..... My friend is being an idiot. He keeps telling me that golf is not a sport. He says that all you do is hit the ball and it goes in the hole. He doesn't understand how hard golf is and the challenges it presents. I am on the school golf team and he says it is stupid. He says that baseball is much harder and that he is awesome at it. (Even though he didn't make the school team) How can I convence my friend that golf is a sport?

Im not sure you can or want to try. Some believe it is, some believe it is not. One thing is for sure, it is a competition. It takes a lot of skill and a lot of practice, but in the end, its about fun.

Take him to the driving range and let him find out for himself.

IMO- Golf is a sport. As opposed to say figure skating?

Clay - I doubt you'll ever convince him. Some day - he may figure it out on his own. In the meantime - I think you're going to have a conversation that just goes in circles. Just tell him that he's wrong and walk away. Don't engage - that will bug him more.

I agree, at some point he'll figure it out. I was the same way in high school, as far as I was concerned there were only three sports, baseball, football and basketball. When he gets a little older he'll realize that golf is a sport you can play for life, unlike most others.

That's about it. Just wait a few years until he picks up the game on his own. You may not even be associating with the guy at that point, and then it really won't matter!

He's my cousin. Guess you can't choose your family!

Tell him to put his money where his mouth is, hit the back nine, and take him for every dollar in his pocket.

You can pick your friends, not your family. On the bright side, everyone has family, so we all know what its like having that one embarrassing member.

My wife says that Baseball is not a sport. All you do is hit throw and hit a ball, plus most of the game the players are not doing anything but eating peanuts on a bench or scratching their asses in the field.

My guess is that anything you cousin can't do well, or doesn't understand he will try and say isn't really a sport. He is trying to make himself look better- so its really about him, not golf.

So just agree with him. Sure right whatever. Then keep bringing back the trophy's from your golf team. I suspect the more successful your team is, the more your cousin will try to insist it isn't a sport.

You can't, he will have to figure it out himself so don't even worry about it.

I doubt you can if he is all ready convinced that it isn't a sport. And like posted earlier it is probably not worth trying.

Take him out to play a round...watch him shoot on 9 holes what you would shoot on 18. Don't forget to harass him the entire time; quoting lines from Happy Gilmore and Caddyshack work great. Some of my favorites include:

"That's a peach, hon!"
"Here's a free lesson for you..."
"Does your wife play too?"
"Somebody's closer!" (in a high-pitched Adam Sandler voice)
"You will NOT make that putt.....JACKASS!"

I can't think of any more right now...just rent the movies before you play and take notes....

golf is much harder than baseball. Much much harder. I have played both and I was good at one of them, I will let you guess which one haha.

You can't argue with people like that. It doesn't matter if he thinks you are right as long as you are wise.
