Default CLub off the tee
Vicar asked about driver distances. So I'll piggy back and ask what's the club you tee off with the most?

5 years ago I teed off with my 5i on all par 4 and 5s . Took a few years off and in 2008 I teed off with a 7w. 2009 I moved up to my 3w.

My goal is controllable distance. I can get out there close to 200 yards with the 3w and rarely slice it 2 fairways over like I can with a driver. SO I'm sacrificing distance to try to keep my mishits smaller.

Curious what other people are doing.

Now, I hit driver if the hole is over 350, 3W down to 5I when its shorter. I started playing 10 yrs ago and kept my driver in a closet for the first couple of years. I tried putting it in my bag several times, but the temptation to swing it was too great. It did not treat me well back then. I used 3W until I got to where I could hit the driver straighter.

I have one hole with a creek across the middle at an angle. Left side begs you to go over at 200, middle is 240 and right side may be 270. If the winds out of the East, seldom, I just have to go for it. I hate to think how many balls I've lost in there.

I usually will use a tee for my driver or 3w. Sometimes will use the tees for my hybrids!
Read the question again GC. Bortass is asking which club you tee off with, not when you use a tee.

Last year, I couldn't hit my driver at all, but it came out of my bag yesterday. I will use it on every hole except the par 3's.

depending on potential hazards and the width of the fairway I like to hit driver for holes that are >325 yds.

I use my driver. Usually more than I should. If I'm really struggling I'll start hitting the 3-wood.

I lied on my reply... it really depends on the course. but on my home course (wind dependent) I use a 4w/3i off the tee more than a driver.

D = 6
4w/3i = 7
5i+ = 5 (par 3's)

Driver, but there is a lot that goes into that decision. If not a driver, I will go 5 iron, thats my 205 yard club. 3 hybrid or 3 wood. Also depends on what I am shooting that day or if I am gambling

I pull driver on anything over 400 for sure, and evaluate the hole on anything less. Saturday I hit Driver 10x, 3w 4x because I was swinging driver pretty well and we had a lot of wind in the face so the distance and lower spin were needed. Hit fairway all 4 times with the 3w, missed with the driver 5/10 but most weren't too bad.

I put driver but I yell POW with my 3 wood as well. It depends what course im playing. There are a few tight ones around here where the driver stays in the bag the whole time.

I tee off with driver on five out of the nine holes I normally play. Three are par-5s and the two par-4s are wide and driveable.

Besides par 3's I only tee off with 3 different clubs. Driver, 3W, 5W or 4 Iron.

Driver - For wide open holes and days when I am feeling confident.

3W - For days where the driver isnt working, or there is a bunker or hazard within driver distance

5W - For tight holes and holes with hazards in the 3W range

4I - for really bad days, and very very tight holes. Also great when the wedge game isnt working so I will have a longer iron to the green.

I use the club that is indicated by the hole and the conditions, but I do use the driver more than any other single club, so that was the logical answer. Unlike many players though, I don't feel obligated to use driver on every hole no matter what.

my driver only finds the fairway about 35% of the time, my 3w about 45%, and hybrid 56% I have much more success with shorter clubs if I can live with a shorter tee shot.

I would bet if I could talk myself into leaving my driver at home I'd probably score better, but there's something about driver that makes me use it even when it's not really going to help me (like on a par 5 that I can't reach in two shots anyways)

I probably use my 3W as much as I do my driver to tee off. I am probably as accurate with the driver as I am with the 3W. I might go to the range and see which one is working that day if either. Most of the time I will use the driver on par5s and long par4s. There are some short par4s that I will use one of my hybrids.

I let the shape of the hole and how I want to play the hole dictate which club I will use off the tee. Yesterday I used driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, and 3 iron. I am not bound and determined to use a driver on every hole.

It depends on the hole. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. :-)
