Default Total Head Case
I admit it. I am a total head case when it comes to this stupid game.

I played last week....78, yesterday....79, and today....too many to count.

It was a total melt down.

I couldn't hit my driver more than about 200 yds, my irons were off by 25% if I didn't skull them or hit them fat.

My chipping was atrocious but to make up for it, I putted like I was blind.

I actually played the last 5 or 6 holes with a 5 iron...off the tee, approach, out of the sand, and putted with it. Believe it or not, I played better with it than my full set. In my defense, I did not break any of my clubs or abuse any of my playing companions. I did use copious amounts of foul language and I am pretty sure some of the words are new.

I mean, seriously, WTH! Every other sport I ever took up, I became proficient within a season and, like riding a bike, the skills never left me. I haven't played soccer in 20 years, but I can still juggle the ball and pass it and dribble it. A few days practice and I could be ready to play. Some days, golf is like waking up completely disoriented in a foreign country, unable to communicate with anyone.

I hate golf!

What time do we tee off tomorrow?

You will get it back CT. It happens to everybody. It may sound cliched, but remember that one of the things to work on is taking it one shot at a time.

Remember to get on and off each whole with the easiest approach. You got the skills, dont let the bad ones get you down.

Yep, that's pretty for typical golf. The pros play that way all the time...with different scores obviously, but none the less, good, and bad days. You have not lost your game, your game is just decided to take a breather. At least your are golfing. I have not touched a club in earnest in two weeks now. Have a beverage, and relax. Better scoring days are a head.

If it were easy all the time it wouldn't be any fun. I like playing this game for the constant challenge it seems to be. Don't be too hard of yourself, I'm sure you still shoot better than me on your off days.

I'm still game to go with you to get that tattoo on your arm,Mr 5 iron. If this game was easy we'd all be on tour.We all have bad days that make us think about quitting ,but we continue to play and strive to get better. That's what makes this game fun.Golf isn't easy and never will be,it's a challenge that we try and conquer.

BTW,You can't quit.I need you to keep me wanting to play this game.If it wasn't for you,I'd probably not be playing.Even though I've only play 3 times in 4 months, you are helping me want to get out and play. Now,If I can get my arse out and practice

I've played golf more than half my life.......I can shoot mid-seventies for a week straight and then show up for two days in a stroke play and shoot 90's......same course.

It's funny to me when you guys say shooting in the 90's is bad I'd love to get used to shooting in the 80's never cracked that yet.

I'm not saying it's bad for everyone....

I know my potential and my average....and my worst. I am content with a 10 stroke range.....but if I'm averaging 75's consistantly for a week and my GHIN is 1.8.....two competitive rounds in the 90's is pretty traumatic.

I think it's just "Mind over matter". I am so ready to break into the 70's myself. I've been close so many times but then I start looking at my scorecard and thinking "If I can just bogey the last two holes..."! and then a slice into the woods, a drop, approach into the sand, sand shot to 25 ft, then top all that off with a three putt.

It hurts so bad!

Amen brother. I have shot in the high 80's a few times but usually spend my time in the land of the low to mid 90's.

The difficulty of this sport, and the mentality needed to play it well is what keeps me coming back. I'd been searching for a serious hobby for a few years, too many things to count, and finally found golf. It has just the right amounts of rewards, risks, punishments, mental challenges, and physical challanges. Keeps me coming back every time.

Thanks for the encouraging words, JB. I needed em.

Big Lefty - If work allows, I'll be out there next Wednesday. I'm just a masochist.

Snickers - I'm glad to know it bites good golfers as well.

JC - Take heart, my high and low in 2009 were 74 and 117! I can really stink it up if conditions are right.

Pumas - I'm saving that shirt for Saturday to distract my opponents. LOL!

Everyone, thanks. I don't feel nearly as bad as I did when I started this thread.

Sorry, Craig. The old adage about complaining about not having shoes until I saw a man with no feet in golf context.

That is the one thing that bothers me as well. Especially if I have a really bad day I start to think about all of the other things I could have bought my wife or spent my money on besides that horrible round of golf.....Also another thing that I question is, if i'm playing with a couple of other "hackers" and I have the lowest score out of all of us, but I still shoot 40 over par.....I don't feel like I really won, especially if I could barely keep it in the fairway!
