Yesterday I was playing with 3 guys I work with, two who are better than I and one who is equal in ability to me. On one of the holes I found my ball right next to one of the better golfer's balls abou 80 yards from the hole. This is my nemisis, I get nervous and 85% of the time screw the shot up but in this instance I looked to my friend and said "bet ya a buck I get closer to the pin" He agreed and I went first and hit a decent shot but it landed about 30 feet from the pin, nothing to write home about but I felt kinda good that I got the shot up in the air and landed it on the green. He stepped up and as I was reaching for the $1, I was shocked to find he shanked the shot and skulled it over the green, not only that but he did the same thing comming back. I don't think it was the "high stakes" we were betting that caused the outcome but I found it amusing.

I play better if there's some money involved as long as it's simple. |

Most of the time, me and the buddies will play 18-hole match play for $5 or $10.
Too risky sometimes playing $2 birdies, $5 eagles. I've made 11 birdies in a single round, and I've played against someone who made three eagles in a round. Can get dangerous fronting out that kind of money along with greens fees. |

I like having a little something on the line to keep it interesting, but I've never played for real big stakes but I would imagine I'd get rather nervous and ultimately it would hurt my game. A buck a hole or so- yeah I like that, not enough to really worry too much about, but enough that you definitely want to win a few holes.

Please forgive my ignorance.. nassau? Often played where the player that is behind can "press". A press generally starts a new match, often double the bet, on the rest of the holes. If I press you after the 7th hole, we'll start another match on the 8th tee which is contested over the next eleven holes. We'd have four matches going. Sometimes there can be more than one press. Gentlemen set those guidelines on the first tee. ![]() Great game. My favorite. Kevin |

I like the Nassua, but I like skins as well. Particularly in a foursome.
I do think having a little something on the match makes it more fun. I think the most fun I ever had on a golf course involved a skins game that had a bunch of carry-overs on 18, so we played on until someone won. It took 6 more holes, but I chipped in a birdie while everyone else missed their birdie putt. I walked away with a lot of money and bigtime bragging rights. |

Some people benefit from having friendly wagers on their round of golf. Do you? ![]() |

Hmmmm....I wonder if this would help my game?!? hee hee...but I think it would put too much pressure on me if I were to start playing for money. Maybe when I get better, perhaps?? ![]() |
