I play $1 a hole and $1 for putts. Usualy comes out pretty even at the end. Even on a bad day your not breaking the bank

Either way the sport is fun. But it doesn't matter if it is 50 cent a hole or a six pack on the line. I still get the shakes when standing over an important putt. I love the competition though!
Maybe I should start off with quarters first and then just start making my way up...I'll need MUCH MORE practice first

Skins is fun even for a small amount. 25 cents a hole or something. As long as everyone is around the same ability, then there is a good chance to spread the money around. Puts a little pressure on when everyone is counting on your put to get a carry over- but it can make the day great fun.

I read a story a while back about 4 wealthy friends that played together regularly. These guys had so much money that monetary bets were meaningless to them. They decided to raise the stakes by saying that the highest score of the day had to eat a can of cat food! One guy said that you have never seen so much pressure on a 3 foot putt if eating a can of cat food is on the line.

I typically don't gamble on the course. If we do, it's usually something dumb like whomever makes the first par buys sandwiches for the group and first birdie buys beers for the group.

I've only been serious for about a year...but...

Historically my buddy and I play skins for anywhere from a quarter to a dollar (yep, high rolling teachers) and I play HORRIBLE when we do this.

Without a wager, I break 90 easily and hit lower 80's easily...put a wager on and

But, I'm just now getting confident enough to try and score aggressively so this year might just be a different story!

To me it doesn't matter, I won't ever bet more than I am willing to loose but sometimes it can get in some of the guys heads and ruin what is supposed to be a fun time. Nothing worse than getting out with your buddies and they are getting all worked up about a $3 skin when you are trying to have a good time.
