I was listening to the talking heads talking poorly about PM and how he is defiling the spirit of the game. They collectively agreed that all the PGA players should all be on the same page and using the same equipment to keep the playing field fair, and level. So with that in mind I suppose I am to conclude that there is no difference (technology/playability) in the various brands of equipment being used by the various players.

Right after that I watched him drive a par 4 green which I thought was pretty cool to see some one do.

Good point DefCon1 about the long handle putters.

What I find funny about McCarron and Mediate calling Phil out is they both use those insanely long putters that many have said also violate the "spirit of the game".
+1 Well said and very appropriate.

Thank you gents. :-)

ps: 45 minutes later: I just heard that Brandel Chamblee made the same point. I didn't steal his idea. :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but playing the ping wedges is pretty much playing a loophole isn't it?

if playing a 20+ year old club that is deemed legal by the rules committee is considered a loophole....then yes.

Scott McCarron is a two bit hack who seems to be a media magnet now that he's been added to the 16-player PAC.

He was running his mouth last week because some tour players were in Abu Dhabi instead of the Bob Hope.

I would not worry to much about Phil Mickleson. He has a few more things under his belt than most of the rest of the PGA players. Especially those who are speaking poorly of him. They should let their clubs speak first, then run their mouths.

I agree that it's against the spirit of the rule. But they are legal, so you cannot say they are cheating. But I think the USGA dropped the ball on this one by not considering that these guys would figure out to use those old Pings. (Would these be allowed in R&A events?)

Not sure what they are going to do to get out of this situation. It's not like they can make the rough more penal at every tournament they play, because that would penalize those who are playing the new clubs even more. It's a nightmare for the USGA right now.

I gotta admit that I don't know the court ruling for Ping back then that would allow the U shaped grooves to be used today.

i think all of this is ridiculous. i feel sorry for phil at this point. he's prepared, he's excited about golf in 2010 and i think that he could be great for the tour. other tour players need to realize this as opposed to shining a light on something else negative on the tour. i don't understand the logic behind any of this at all. the wedge is allowed....enough said.
