Default Hit by a golf ball?
Has anyone been hit by a golf ball? I wish more people on the course would at least yell FORE when a ball approaches a group of people. I've been hit before, and I hope it was my last time...got hit square in the back of the shoulder and it hurt!! Right off someone's drive shot and I was in the trees in the woods about 200+ yards away and I still got hit!

We played today and almost got hit by a ball from someone on the other fairway, but people really do need to learn to shout out fore!! And of course they didn't and they just had no clue...

I've never been hit before but my father hit a line drive bullet at my ankle shin height from about 110 yards I had to jump over. we had a good laugh afterwards. I got two other stories. another time on a tee box my father and I were playing thru a group of chinese men and my father doesn't exactly like playing in front of strangers especially just playing thru and he hit the ball sideways directly at the gentlemen's head. all of them look at us as if we were crazy and they were gonna kill us. got and still get a real good laugh outta that one. I still remember how nervous my dad was it took him a hole or so to re-group. lastly growing up my best friend and I would play all the time and once in the same round he backed the cart into me running over into my achilles tendon and then later in the round he left the cart on top of a hill I guess with the brake loose and it rolled down into the water as we chased it.

Here is a link to a story about a golfer who was hit and killed by a golf ball a few years ago. This happened at a course that I have played many times.

I have been hit once in the leg and have hit a couple of people. No serious injuries thankfully.

I've been hit by both my little brother and my wife. I don't think I have ever hit anyone.

I've managed to not get hit by a ball struck with a club, it's a freakin miracle.

I've jumped out of the way of a couple.

I've almost hit folks a few times, I'm the worst about nearly hitting one of my partners while they're standing on the green, and I'm chipping up.

I've had buddies throw their ball at me after heckling them

I've hit 3 people in my life. 2 were in my foursome at one time and they were standing in my ball path not expecting an accidental line drive. My other victim was a stranger and I yelled FORE. He was luckily cool about the whole thing.

I've never hit anyone...don't have much sympathy for those who do; unless you hit a near magical shank that went completely off line it only means that you don't value the amount of damage a flying golf ball can do and don't leave enough room to account for the possiblity of a once in a lifetime shot; it it REALLY going to make a difference to you if you have to wait another couple of minutes to take a shot when the group in front isn't going anywhere anyway!?!?!

I've had near misses, never been hit, but my caddy got nailed once...I took the ball back and handed it to the jerk personally...

I think the guys on tour have a lot to answer for, they never shout fore and just raise an arm to show the direction,no use if your on an ajacent fairway,it's simple manners and should always be shouted when a wayward drive or shot is struck. Never been hit but had to dodge one at head height once no shout, walked over to the guy and nearly decked him for not shouting.

I guess if your gonna hit someone with a shot, a chip would be the best one!

I've been lucky enough never to hit anyone or be hit by a ball, but came close a couple times. A couple ladies playing behind us this year on a hilly course. They didn't bother to top a hill and check where we were, of course we were waiting to hit. A ball comes flying between my partner and I, we just look at each other for a second and another ball comes through about the same spot. We just stand there, still can't hit anyway, and wait until the Lady's get there.
They acted embarrassed, but I was pretty pissed. It was there second shots to our first and they had been behind us during slow play all day. All they had to do was top the hill in their cart and check, but no, not them.

The last time I was hit was by a "near magical shank that went completely off line." The guy's drive slammed me between my neck and shoulder - I was in pain for the entire summer two years ago. He was very upset, but it wasn't his fault. I was also hit two other times - in the thigh and in the arm. The guy that hit me in the arm asked me how far I thought his ball would have went if I didn't stop it.

The time I was hit in the thigh - the guy didn't yell fore and I'm glad because I would have turned around and that would have hurt more.

I often play on an older tight course where balls are sprayed everywhere. We barely look up when people yell at this point because it's almost impossible to figure out where the ball is coming from.

If someone shouts fore what can you do? you could move and get hit, stay where you are and it misses you.

Easy answer...

...drop the ball and hit it for him...

I long for the day when I'm good enough to do things like that. Or hit a ball back to the idiot that hit into me on purpose.

Personally I always put a hand over my mouth...I've paid way too much for this dental work...

...I get what you're saying though...it does kill me when I see people throw their arms around their heads and do everything but stop/drop and roll...I'd rather get nailed than grab my panties like that...

Are you kidding BV? You're that worried about your image on the course? I guess you can be since you're head is harder than the ball anyway.

BTW, I never shout FORE either...somehow I feel like a tool...

...I do holler though...something between a "yoooooo" and a "wooohp"...it all sounds the same to the guy rolling on the ground like a mortar attack is incoming anyway...
