Ok - enough with pet peeves and complaining. Name at least 3 things you like about playing golf.
  1. A well executed shot - no I can't shape a shot, but I'm happy when they go straight.
  2. Making a putt because I read the green correctly - it wasn't all luck.
  3. Being outside and walking the course - whether it's warm or cold - I just love being there.

Shooting well, I don't really care about the score so long as I feel I made some decent shots.

Elevated tee boxes, love the view from the nicer ones.

The sound a nice crisp iron shot makes.

Some things I love about golf:

The sound of the ball bouncing inside the cup around after going in the hole.
The feeling after chipping in
Hitting the ball out of the trees and watching it get onto the green
Walking on a well maintained green
Hitting balls on the range
Watching a ball lip in

I could name a bunch more but these are a sample of my favorites

Golf is an equalizer...it's the only sport I can be good at that requires finesse over strength and endurance. It's something I can play with the guys I love and be competitive. And it's something I'll be able to play as I get older. (Is that four, or one?)

I love when I nail an approach shot.

I love when I sink a really long putt with multiple breaks.

I love watching Boo swing.

What I love best is that when I'm playing golf, it's the only thing I'm doing. Almost all of my life is multitasking, and golf is one of maybe four things I've ever done that requires total focus.

It is me vs nobody else but me.
Sinking any putt is the cherry on the sundae.
The feel of a crisp iron shot feels effortless and amazing.

Nice long drive right down the middle.

Early morning golf when the dew is still on the grass and you can see the track left by the ball when it lands and roll down the fairway.

The ball hitting the bottom of the cup, that is a great sound.

The ball hitting the sweet spot of the driver you just do not feel anything just a nice crisp pop.

The best thing about the golf course is to play on a cool crisp fall day when the leaves are a golden color, just something about fall golf that is just relaxing.

Being out of doors, walking around, and a decent shot every now and then. Add in the competitive value of me against the course, some occasional wild life sightings, and watching others "lose it", is pretty good entertainment.

1. Playing with good friends
2. The challenge of trying to get better
3. Knowing at the end of a round no matter how bad it was there is nowhere else I'd rather have been.

The soft, buttery feeling of hitting it pure, on the rare occasions it happens, is almost transcendental for me. When I manage to crush the ball and send it a long long way away it renews my amazement at the properties of physics. And nothing is more pleasant than a well plotted 7000 yard nature walk while accomplishing the above two things from time to time.

I love walking onto the first tee and pulling my driver knowing for the next 3+ hours I am going to be in heaven on earth. I love this game including the endorphine rush of a well struck shot as well as the frustration of a missed 2 footer. I enjoy the camraderie with other players, the competition and the companionship. I like the honor system that proves golf really is a gentleperson's game. I like the feel and sound of my footfalls on the fairway as my clubs clink together in rhythm with my stride. I like studying the impending shot and planning, then executing, the needed skill.

Is that three yet?

1. Being out with friends.

2. Successfully recovering from trouble (I'd better like it cause I spend a lot of time doing it).

3. Using my imagination to plan a shot, then actually executing it.

Things I love about golf:
  • The anxiety of standing on the first teebox
  • Striping one down the middle
  • Being the first one on the course
  • Making birdies
  • Shaping a shot around an obstacle, and it doing what you want it to
  • Watching the ball roll across the green
  • Sharing jokes with my golf buddies
  • A good cigar while playing
  • Seeing my daughter hit a big shot
  • Seeing my wife smile when she hits a good shot
