I have had one and needed it regularly when I first started playing 8 years ago. It broke sometime back and I have never replaced it. I really don't need it now and besides there are plenty of balls in easy reach in the desert if you don't mind a little thing like a rattlesnake or a gila monster.

I carry most of the time and I would rather use the weight for either a few extra balls, umbrella, etc.....
If I cant reach it with my 2H, then I just play on....
No more than 15 seconds wasted.....

When I lived in Arkansas and had just started playing, I went through a lot of balls. I bought a retreiver and when I ran low on balls, I would walk a local course that had 3 clear water creeks braided through the course. Without much work, I could barely drag my bag up the 18th. Before anyone goes crazy, I would do this late in the day when I was about the only one on the course and there were so many balls in the creeks that I didn't really have to "search".

i have always carried one. mine is pretty compact so it fits in the long side pocket of my bag with ease and weighs about half a pound maybe. i guess i have always had one since i was little so it just always had a place in the bag. i still use it on occasion though because it seems like my miss in the water is still reasonably close to the edge

I've got one. It's only a 6' long one, so it's compact, and if the ball is further away than that, I call it a loss./

I love to pull it out and look for balls when I'm waiting on some clown to clear the green or whatever. It's perfect for killing time, rather than stewing about slow play.

I've never purchased a retriever, but I won one at an event last year. It telescopes, so you can't see it, and I tend to forget it's there. Since I won it, I've never hit a ball in the water. And by saying that, I have just cursed myself for tomorrow's round.

If the golf god's heard that, you are in real trouble... You must throw 2 balls in the nearest pond, turn around 3 times, and do a ritual dance or you will regret it.

I'm with the group that says good riddance to the ball. I bought some pro v's one time just to see what all the fuss was about. I found out they sink just as good as the $1 pinnacles...

I have one that my wife gave me several years ago for Christmas (carried it for awhile just so she would not think it was a worthless present).

When I come to a tee that has water always look for the ball washer got to get the ball use to the water.
