This year it was off the tee. Because I start the hole bad, the rest of it is because of that, I feel. I chipped and putted better this year and my approaches (when I wasn't hitting my second or third shots from under trees or in some other precarious situation because of the tee shot) were slightly better this year.

Smallie - Do you mean you worked harder on other shots to make up for the tee shot?

Off the tee. Literally: A teed ball messes with my head! I haven't tried just dropping the ball on the tee-box yet, although I should.

Maybe I didn't have as many of those to have as many bad shots because of my bad tee shots!

Actually I started getting better with everything last year. In fact, it was my best year in probably every category I ever had since I started playing. This year, the problems off the tee led to some bad decisions trying to make a recovery shot or playing smart but not getting the good result (coming from under trees, trying to chip back to the fairway but either leave it short and still in trouble or hit it through the fairway into some other trouble!).

So I don't know. Hopefully next year my tee shots will come back and my scores will come back down. This year was pretty much a mulligan year for me as far as scoring goes. I had fun of course because I was golfing, but I had more rounds this year that I didn't even bother to add the scores at the end.

Do you always feel that way? Do the rest of you always feel that way? I don't get upset about the way I'm playing, but I've played on days when I'm in a bad mood or stressed and golf isn't fun on those days.

Playing bad golf doesn't bother me as much as I've seen it bother others. I don't throw clubs (although I will almost throw a club!) and by the time I get to the next hole, I usually am back to normal. If it's going to bother someone so much that it ruins their day, I wonder why they bother playing. Luckily, most of the people I've been fortunate enough to play with have (mostly) the same attitude - - - they at least don't let it bother them for very long when they have bad shots. Definitely the people I've golfed with more than a couple of times are that way.

My 2nd shots and tee shots on par 3s are what really kill my game. Although on the par 5s, I have been hitting my 2nd shot really well with my new 3w. I hit a 2nd shot today about 250yds in our member-guest tournament. My buddy hit is drive about 265yds, I hit the next shot right up next to the green about 250yds with a little wind behind us. I think I only had 1 bad shot with my 3w today. But definitely my long-mid iron game needs the most help.
