Default What to do? Buy or not?
What would you do?

As you can see from my sig I'm gaming an older Adam 9.5º RPM dual driver with an Aldila NV65 stiff shaft. According to the BBGPSgolf program on my phone I'm averaging 256 yards including roll of about 10 yards (I think) with a couple maxed out at 270. I have a pretty high ball flight with this driver and for the most part hit it dead straight or have a slight draw.

I'm looking a couple of different drivers that are on sale right now but since the range, simulator, and course are all very much different I don't really want to waste a bunch of money on a club that won't give me more distance or control. I'm looking at the older Speedline, Hibore XLS, Hyper X, and the Rapture V1. All of these drivers I can get for under $200 Canadian.

Why am I wondering if I should change? I only paid $35 for the Adams! So I'm looking at sort of a cost versus benefit. I know that irrational for most golfers.

Opinions would be appreciated.

Steve

If it ain't broke.....250 is a pretty good poke. You hear tales of 300 yarders, but they aren't the norm. If you really want a new driver, take your time and find what's right. I don't really use my driver and my 3 wood is about 5 years old and it still works great.

If it is working, then I would say keep at it. However I would also tell you to go into a store and try a few out and see if you feel a big difference for both feel, distance, and accuracy.

I would agree that the idea of a new driver sounds great but the reality requires much patience and practice to get a feel for if it is right. Adams has some nice equipment out there but finding what would be an effective replacement for you currently have is going to be about time and flexibility (yours although maybe the clubs too).

Thanks for the reply! Such SANE answers. LOL.

I worked pretty hard last winter to change my swing from an outside in to more a neutral swing so that I could drive it straight. I guess I'm just greedy and want more distance. I'm using a stiff shaft right now but my swing speed is around 98mph. As far as swing speed goes I guess I'm right in between a reg and stiff flex but my thought was I could get more distance with a reg. flex (and newer technologies shaft and head technology) and not lose too much control.

Go get on a launch monitor and try them different shafts and club heads and see what the numbers say. Might save you some money if it turns out that's all you got right now with any club. Turns out you have the wrong club...then you know what you need. I did it. Turned out it wasn't the club. Ha! It was my swing. Swing speed makes the most difference in distance. Different shaft flex just helps people with varying speeds square the club....and...2 fiddy is a good swing.

Yeah I'm definitely a buyer but I love to find the good deals. I do find it nearly impossible for myself to pay full retail for golf equipment and currently the deals are there to be had.

I'm not too sure what Golf Town here in Canada charges to use their launch monitor but I do use their simulators to test out clubs. Can you glean enough good information from a simulator stall?
