Default My course is closing...
Just found out that the course I play because its a 2 minute drive and affordable finally caved in to developers. Its been a constant struggle for the owners to either keep the course in shape and or make money. This past season saw new ownership and with it I noticed less money going back in to the course. It wasnt the best course by any stretch but it wasnt that bad either! I just hate seeing a course go away for more houses!

We have a few courses that have been closed down due to lack of revenue. One I know of was high dollar course. Most likely if they don't open it back up, it will go the new housing route also. It is already surrounded by occupied houses.

We even had developer who allegedly would buy property for public use for pennies on the dollar. He would build a public golf course, then charge a higher than normal green's fee. The fees were not affordable to the general public. After a while he would go to local government crying he was losing money on his investment, and would ask to turn the property into a housing development. Of course this would raise the value of the property sky high that he had earlier bought cheap. That practice has since been discontinued.

I feel for you Kev....my driving range/par 3 course finally caved in and sold out to developers as well. The only other driving range in a 10 mile area is going to have to triple the amount of stalls they have to manage the extra traffic now. Long lines and crowds....can't wait

Bummer. Sort of a sad sign of the times.

Yeah it is a sign of the times. It was the perfect course for getting up, deciding it was a good day to play golf, roll up and get a tee time in a matter of 20 minutes! There is one more thats within 5 minutes of me but rumors are going around about that one having money issues too. That one is already surrounded by houses so maybe they wont be building more. Of course if I want to drive 30 minutes to an hour theres a bunch of places to play.

My home course closed up last year & it was evident there were $$ issues as the course really went to hell. It was for sale earlier this year but being in a small town nobody is going to cough up the big $$. So the village actually took over the course & hired a pretty good crew to run it. Course has never looked better.

It could be worse.
My local course was up for sale about... 6 years ago. The owner turned down the offer from the members to buy it and sold it to another guy who put cows on it to graze for about two weeks. It's sat there, completely unsued and overgrown, ever since...
