Default Golf....Game or Addiction?
By definition a drug addict is someone who spends a great deal of his/her time THINKING about drugs and SEEKING them out.

I spend a great deal of time thinking about golf. When can I play next? Swing thoughts. Heck, I even dream about the game! I also spend plenty of time seeking out and shopping for equipment. I can't drive by a golf shop without stopping in.

I suspect that many of you are as smitten by the game as I am.

DO WE JUST LOVE THE GAME OR ARE WE ACTUALLY ADDICTED?

Contrary to what you may think because I'm on here so often - I am not addicted to golf.

If I could not golf anymore, for what ever reason, I would be disappointed. Suicidal? No, so I am not addicted to the games. It's definitely up there on my my list of things I like to do. I might be guilty of wasting money on this hobby, but I have other hobbies I waste money on too.

A few years ago I had a hard time going to sleep at night. It was serious enough my wife convinced me to seek professional help. When it comes to medical advice, I don't argue with her. Turned out I was not able to relax enough to fall into the rem sleep we all need to feel better after a good sleep. The sleep doctor told me since I played golf, to play a few holes in my mind to see if that would help. It did, and the problem went away. Instead of sheep, I counted golf strokes.

That would be a lot of counting for me....

I would say I'm in between. I can't say I'm addicted. But this past weekend was the first weekend since the beginning of summer that I didn't get to play. I was antsy and not in the best mood.

Why do I have trouble accepting that as the truth?

I'm an addictive personality type of person and I have to say that the more I play golf the more I think about it and want to play even when I'm not. It's the most challenging game ever created and the fact of that combined with ANYONE who can swing a club can play it makes it the world's greatest game. I think there are alot of worse things in life that I could blow my money on. People at my local CC tease me because I go out and buy a new club when I get the urge but they will sit and spend 200 bucks a weekend drinking beer. At least my 200 bucks will last me until I get the urge to get something else. Buying the equipment and new things is what keeps the game fresh and exciting for me.

I love a lot about golf - playing, practicing, the equipment, its history and watching it on TV. I even dream about golf sometimes. I can truthfully say however, that I'm not addicted. There are so many other things in my life that take precedence over golf. Maybe when the kids are older and I have more time, I'll get addicted, but not at this time.

For myself it could easily be an addiction. I think I have OCD & have been hooked on crap in the past. Played Diablo 2 online for about 2 years, was seriously addicted to it. Got hooked on my guns, bow, etc etc for awhile too.

I was kidding my wife about how lucky she was, I could have been addicted to whiskey and wild women. She said that at least I was good at golf. Ouch!

Hmmmmm. $200 for beer over a weekend, or a new club. Decisions, decision, and more decisions.
