I'm playing in a charity tournament at the end of the month - it's a scramble. We had a group of 4 women, but one had to cancel. My brother was also playing, but hadn't put a 4-some together so I convinced him to join us. He's convinced it's going to be the longest day of his life. Anyway - he's a 2 handicap and the rest of us are quite a bit higher so we don't have an A, B, C, D golfer. We have an A and 3 who suck. I'm wondering now how weird this is going to be.

Go there and plan on having fun. Sure his game is going to matter more, but it will not always in putting. If more people would do the charity thing to just have fun, you would be amazed how great they would be.

A few years ago I took Golf as a college elective and I played several scrambles with 3 girls who never picked up a club before taking the class. I actually enjoyed it and just encouraged them to have fun(which you should be doing in a charity event as well). Of course for me it didn't hurt that two of them were very attractive...

B. Enjoy your new found length and hit your approaches, pitches, chips and putts closer than him.

I agree with JB. If you have fun it won't matter how badly you play. Hopefully your brother will see it as a time to just have fun and not worry about the duffed shots. Plus having a "ringer" on your team gives you a chance to have some pretty good shots. I'd just let him hit last that way you ladies are getting to hit everytime. It's no fun when he hits first and holes out from 200 yards. Ok so that would still be fun. Good luck and drink lots of beer.

My Men's Club plays a 5 man scramble as a new member mixer to start each season. We use a format that I've found to be unusual but a lot more equitable than some other scramble setups. The way we do it, you can use any player's drive on any hole, BUT.... The player whose drive is selected does not get to play the second shot. That brings a different strategy into the game... makes you think about who you want playing that second shot, and let's the weaker players feel that they are more a part of the team. Thinking that in Diane's case, the women will be playing from the forward tees, while her brother will be a bit farther back so the discrepancy in the tee shots may not always be all that great. That would make it an advantage to sometimes choose a shorter drive in order to have the longer hitter playing the second shot.

That's all irrelevant to Diane's question.... just came to mind while I was reading the thread...

In the charity scrambles I play in, it is no big deal for the for those players who are not hitting to drop a ball and hit just for the fun of it. Everyone gets more hits doing this. It's all about having fun, and generating revenue for the charity. Obviously the non hitting players need to make sure they are not holding up play before doing this.

That's a great idea Fourputt. You could amend that to the player whose SHOT is selected. That could make a difference when putting or on Par 5 holes.

I was going to say that you don't have to always take the best shot. You pick which shot you are going to take. Your brother could be 100 yards past all of your shots. You don't have to take his shot.

Played in a scramble sunday, we didn't always take the best/longest shot. We also required everyones drive be utilized at least 3 times per side.

To be fair, usually a scramble for a 2 handicap is not that much fun, regardless of who the scramble team is. A scramble for such a good player is more a social event that happens to include swinging a club. I suggest making it more social and a chance for you and him to hang out and spend some quality time together rather that about the golf.

It's his whole game compared to ours. The good thing is all of us love to play so it's going to be fun no matter what.

BTW, I am getting pretty sick & tired of scrambles. Would rather just play the course & see what score I get. I don't care if the guys i'm with are better or worse & neither should they care. We can still have fun.
