Hi

I am a Kerala Tamil Brahmin - Sapth Mathrukas are worshipped extensilvely in temples in Kerala. There are pratishtas of the saptha mathrukas with separate poojas in the famous Kodungalloor Temple and also Tiruvanchikulam temple. Most temples have seven balikals representing the 7 mothers alsong with Ganapathi and Veerabhadran inside the compound and daily offerings of rice and flowers (sribali) are offered to the godesses here. the Mathukalbali held in the Irinjalakuda Temple during the festival is very famous.

Yes. Yes. Raghy ji. I wonder about the worship of "Saptha mathrukas" always. I always worship them. But their specific temples and manthras are unknown. I heard that there are 7 temples around Mayiladuthurai, where sapthamathrukas worshipped Shiva.

I dont know much about katteri and Muneeswaran. But our family deity itself is Ayyanar with his consorts Poorna and Pushkala. So, know about him.

Pranams

Am eagerly waiting for much more gods and goddesses.

Saptha Matrukas are mentioned in Devi Mahatmyam. In the Kavacham they are specifically mentioned. The worship of Saptha Matrukas is popular all over India.

I can post the details if anyone is interested.

Kunjuppu:-(Quote)my grandmother used to tell me that there is one and only one God above all of siva, vishnu and brahma - aadhi paraa sakthi (en-quote)

YES.This is confirmed by sri.Acharya SANKARA,in his Soundarya Lahari(Aanandha Lahari part).

"-------Athas Twaam Aaraadhyaam Hari,Hara Virinji Aadhibhirapi--Pranamthum Sthotum Vaa
-Katham Akrutha Punya Prabhavathi"
There fore even Hari(Vishnu)--Hara(Rudra),Virinji(Brahma) Aadhibhirapi=and now other Devathaas also
Pranamthum=Worshipping You ----Stothum vaa=and praisng YOU---Katham Akrutha Punya Prabhavathi
=even to touch Your(Aadhi Para Sakthi.s) feet,One has to have poorva janma Punyam to his/her credit.

This is further confirmed:-

Taniyaamsam paamsum tava carana-pankeruha-bhavam
Virincih sanchinvan virachayati lokan avikalam;
Vahaty evam Shaurih katham api sahasrena shirasaam
Harah samksudy’ainam bhajati bhajati bhasito’ddhalama-vidhim.

I am Not Verbatim translating---but telling in the form of a story--sri.Raja Raajeswari(Aadhi Para sakthi)
is sitting in Durbar.Virinchi(Brahma) is collecting the dus(Paadha Dhooli) from the feet of "Mother",
in a siver cup.sri.Vishnu(Aadhi Sesha) comes and asks "Hey! Brahma !! what are you doing?"
BR;-"Iam collecting the dhooli which helps me in giving "Animation"(Sakthi) t the creatures,I create.
Vishnu:-Allright-get away -let me collect which will give me enormous power to my necks to carry the Universe
on my shoulders(No Cervical Spondylosis). He collects in a Golden cup.

Lord Rudra comes."hey! Vishnu!!what are You doing"--Vishnu tells Him,what He does--Siva:-"Get away,brother-in-law
let me collect my share--Vishnu:-What You will do with the Paadha Dhooli?--Siva:-"When I do celestial dancing,I need Stamina
if I smear this dust as Basmam, I get enormous power--"Basma Diktha Kalebaram".he collects in His Kapaalam.Acharya SANKARA
says "O! Supreme Mother!!thesea re Powerful people(Capitalists!!)--they would completely scrap all the dust--then commoners like
me will get nothing.Mother asks"My Child! -tell me how this Dhooli is helpful to commenors like you?--I will stop them.

Avidyanam antas-timira-mihira-dweeppa-nagari
Jadanam chaitanya-stabaka-makaranda-sruti jhari
Daridranam cinta-mani-gunanika janma-jaladhau
Nimadhanam damshtra mura-ripu-varahasya bhavati.

"This Dhooli takes a person from Avidhya(total ignorance) to a peninsula illuminated with billion watts of
Intelectual lights----A person like a stone (Inertia/lethargy) to drink the nectar of Chaitanyam hrough Sruthi
Gives CHINTAMANI to a person of abject poverty(even Syamanthaka mani gives 8 maunds of Gold to a person--Chintamani
would give whatever wealth a paerson aspires in his/her imagination)---Lifts a person drowning in the Ocean of Samsaaram
like the "Dhamshtra"(Canine Teeth) of Varaaha Murthy(ripu=enemy who slain---Mura=the Asura(demon) MURA)

This discussion about the not so well known Gods/Goddesses of Hinduism. A post about there being only one GOD has no relevance here.

We all know about that. The Upanishads are all about that. Brahman. That has also been discussed often in this forum. Durgadasan knows that. But this discussion is not about Brahman.

In one of my Yahoo groups we often discuss Puja and other rituals of various Deities. And also different Sampradhayas. Unfortunately we had posts once in a while about there being only one GOD. Nirguna/Saguna Brahman. In fact because of such irrelevant posts. I had to make the group a moderated group.

I agree with sri.sankara Sharmah,---More often than NOT we deviate too much from the main topic and I commit that error very often. The chain of thoughts drag us far off from the main topic.there is a chapter in Chemistry called "Diffusion"--we used to teach it is a "natural phenomenon".In high Schools the teacher would say"Irrelevent" and cut the marks. Here we are all grown up.The brighter side is it helps to "Share the knowledge" also. But in the name of moderation the meassages need not be deleted-we all get a little pleasure in interacting here with other members-a bit of "show-off" also, -the deviators can be gently advised/goaded to stick to the "main Topic"---it can be given as a"General Advice" in the Forum itself to all members.

Recently I went to Thiruvanjikulam, but has not seen the sapthamathurkas sBalikkal. But seeing those devis in silaroopam will be simply superb. In chennai velachery, (in dandiswaram) a very famous temple purely devoted to sapthamathrukas is there. It is the devis devoted to Shri Dandiswara swami. The temple is situated in the main road itself and is very very ancient temple too.

Sapthamathrukaas: In Maharashtra there is a pilgrimage place called 'sapthashringi'. Does this refer or relate to the same. Unfortunately, it will be sometime before I could learn and know it myself. Members please enlighten.

Sapthashringi refers to Seven Mountain Peaks. This is the place where Markendaya Mahirishi wrote the Devi Mahatmyam.
