Saab,

I heartily commend your noble service - introducing old Tamil scriptures to the
present generation. Unfortunately, we brahmins do not give so much importance to
Tamil texts, as we do to Sanskrit works. This may be due to the mistaken notion that Tamil is not or cannot be as sacred as Sanskrit. It could be due to ignorance about availability of rich Tamil literature too.

May I request you to kindly continue this regardless of others' remarks - good or bad.

Both Sambandar and Sundarar are TB only. How can we say that we don't have anything to do with Devaram. Arunagirinathar who composed Tiruppugazh is a TB. Valllimalaiswamigal (again a TB) only popularised Tiruppugazh. Abhirami Battar is a TB. How can you say TB is not involved in propagating Tamil treasures like Devaram.

தித்திக்கும் தேவாரம் என்று தேவாரப் பாடல்கள் போற்றப்படுகின்றன. ஆனால் அத்வைத பிராமணர்கள் பலருக்கு இதுபற்றி ஏதும் தெரிவதில்லை. சல்மான் ருஷ்டியைத் தெரியும். ஆனால் சம்பந்தர் பாடிய பதிகங்கள் தெரியாது. அத்வைதக் கருத்துக்கள் பூத்துக் குலுங்கும் தேவாரப் பாடல்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் சொந்தமானவை. அந்தணர் சமூகம் இவற்றைப் படித்துப், பாடி, போற்றிப் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டும்.

இன்றைய தமிழ் இலக்கியங்கள் அனைத்தையும்
உலக்குக்கு மீட்டு கொண்டு வந்தவர் உ வே சாமிநாத அய்யர்
அவர்கள் . அந்த தமிழ் தாத்தா தமிழுக்கும் சைவத்துக்கும்
செய்யாத தொண்டா ? ஒருமுறை பகவான் ரமணரிடம் சென்று
தரிசனம் செய்தார் . அப்பொழுது , " நான் தமிழ் தமிழ் என்று
அலைந்து திரிந்து விட்டேன் . நான் எங்ஙனம் கடைத்தேருவது
என அறிகிலேன் ", என்றதற்கு ரமணர் ," தமிழ்த்தொண்டும் சிவத் தொண்டே . கவலையே வேண்டாம் ",என்று கூறினார் .ரமணரது போற்றத்தக்க பக்தர்களுள் முருகனார் ஒருவர் .
அவர் தமிழில் இக்காலத்தே 30,000 பாடல்களுக்கு மேலே .
கொடுத்துள்ளார் . அவர் பிராம்மண குலத்தில் உதித்தவரே .
இன்றும் தலைசிறந்த தமிழ் கலைக் களஞ்சியம் ஏழு
நூல் தொகுப்புகளாக(TAMIL LEXICON) சென்னை பல்கலை கழகத்தில் உள்ளதே அதை தொகுத்தவர்களில் முருகனாரும் ஒருவர் . அதில் அதிகமான் பிராமணர்கள் பங்குகொண்டுள்ளனர்
ரமணர் அவரது அனைத்து உபதேசங்களையும் தூய தமிழில்
கொடுத்துள்ளார் . இன்று இந்திய பல மொழியனரும் மற்றும் பல நாட்டினரும் அந்த தமிழ் பாக்களை அவர்களது மொழியில் transliteration செய்து பாராயணம் செய்துவருகிறார்கள் .
ஆனால் தமிழ் நாட்டில் அறிந்தவர்கள் கொஞ்சமே .

அத்வைதம் என்பது ஒரு குழுவினரது அல்ல . அது ஒரு நிலைப்பாடு .அதை கண்டவர் விண்டதில்லை விண்டவர் கண்டதில்லை .

Off late, I've developed a good interest in knowing 'Thevaram'.. Though its difficult to understand the poetic version, the pOzhippuRai comes helpful.

Some of the tamil movie song stanza copied from Thevaram, has become a real hit..

Interesting to note is, they travelled to each popular temples around T.N and composed them, in the temple vicinity ..

I scrolled through all the temple titles of Thevaram. Sadly, none of the temples in my ancestoral native town are covered by them!
