Default What is the significance of holi?
Guys here in India say that they are eagerly waiting for holi. I saw on-line that people throw colours on each other in this festival and celebrate it this way but didn't got the meaning of it and why people celebrate this festival.

Holi is associated with Hinduism; it is celebrated in spring season according to ancient Hindu calendar. It fell either on March or April. It is mainly celebrated on northern India in cities of Mathura and Barsana. This is lot of fun and remind of Spain’s la tomatino festival. One should go for it.

Hiranyakashyap was a bad king who was killed by lord Krishna. As Hiranyakashyap was a bad and barbaric king, public became happy and decided to celebrate the day by throw colours on each other. This became a tradition and people started celebrating holi every year.

Cool
Krishna (who was dark skinned) was jealous that Radha had fair/light skin so he threw color on her playfully
(true story)
